The sad thing is that after our last league match we were all looking up. Then the next day Leeds turned around 2-0 at half time (with some awful refereeing helping them out of course) and we put in an absolute horror show against Palace.

I think we’re more likely to put together a run than our rivals though, look at the start of the season, same players minus Digne.
So let’s forget the cup and look for back to back league wins.

Leeds turning that game around was a blow but if we had just held on for the draw against Newcastle and then Leeds drew that game, don’t think as much would have been made of it.

We’re actually in a better position having won, would need a strange set of results anyway for us to finish above Leeds but not Burnley at this point.

Spitty is right, unfortunately. We've recruited 'types' of players without thinking about personalities. Any coach worth their salt will tell you these days that personality is just as important. Look at United. They've got Ronaldo, who's class, but he's completely ruined the squad harmony they had under Ole. Toxic personalities or poor attitudes are killers when you're trying to build a team.

We're far too interested in getting players who play the 'Everton way' and will get stuck into the RS. We're obsessed with buying 'quality' over 'suitability'. The most sensible investments these past few years have been in the less fashionable players like Gray, Pickers, Holgate, Jarrad Branthwaite etc. Every 'star' we've bought has been awful, by and large, because we're buying players other teams don't want. Iwobi, for example. Yeah, he was from Arsenal, but Arsenal didn't want him. Why do you think they bit our hand off for £20-odd million? They'd get that off nowhere else.

We were great when Moyesy used to buy players from lower divisions, who'd play for the shirt and had quality. It's exactly what he's doing at West Ham now. Jarrod Bowen is the exact type of player we should've been all over, but because he was playing for unfashionable Hull, we weren't interested. Much rather spaff £30m on Gomes because he played at Barca.

It needs sorting, but I doubt it ever will. We've got an owner far more interested in buying 'stars' for his own ego, rather than building a team. There's no reason we can't do what Leicester and Brighton do, and create stars of our own. But that would require some joined-up thinking!
