how I forgot to post this I don't know, went into Wigan today and the pound bakery that they have in ashton is a pound 50 bakery in wigan, basically they could charge 3 quid for them there cos they couldn't do without them.
 
I just wanted to add to this thread the bad side of pasties.

I was in CORNWALL taking part in the Eden Project Half Marathon, Just ran 13 miles and you get a free pint and pastie. Cool I thought im in friggin cornwall this pint and pastie will be the BEST ever.

Oh how my heart sank when I claimed my pastie and pint dripping with sweat and a starvin marvin.
Pint was real ale, not too bad from the local brewery.
Informed by the sexy waitress that the pastie was freshly baked today by the bakery 3 miles away.
Mouth watering - i tucked into the pastie and I have to say I have not often been so dissapointed by any foodstuff in recent history.
STEAK they said, bollox it was mashed steak pieces not ONE CHUNK in it. At very most 8-10% meat. Nice Pastry didnt save this one.
I was absolutely bloody FUMING, and thought of this thread. I mean if you cant get a decent pastie in Cornwall there really is no point going.

Rant over, my legs hurt so I had to vent somewhere!!

That's a shame mate. Most pasty places are pretty decent down here, but you do get your odd real crap one.


And i'm guessing the beer was probably Eden Ale? Made by Sharp's brewery I think. Pretty decent brewery them, they make Doom Bar, which has a cool name.
 
Found a pound bakery in Bury while christmas shopping today. Got about a tenners worth, ratings are as follows

Sausage roll 4/5 Nice, flaky pastry, well seasoned meat. Not quite as nice meat as greggs but 2 massive ones for a quid.

Meat & potato pasty 4.5/5 Nice pastry again, good amount of filling. 2 for a quid. Nicely seasoned.

Steak pasty 3/5 Nice pastry, not bad tasting but I had 2 and found 2 little pieces of meat in both. again 2 for a quid but very underfilled.

And is a bloody decent pint as well IMO.
