A 150ft artificial ski slope was supposed to take Kirkby in a different sporting direction but ended
up being abandoned and unused among rumours that it was built facing 'the wrong way round'

As I recall there were several problems. It was, apparently, built up from domestic refuse and never likely to last. Also, vehicles using the M57 reported taking evasive action as it that it looked like the skiers were going to crash into the motorway traffic ...
