Our squad is poor and will be decimated at the end of the season, so I suppose it makes sense to have a longer deal for the manager. I feared they'd give Dyche a new contract but getting Moyes back isn't too much better. That said he could always spot a player, and if he can work with Thelwell we might get the basis of a half decent squad. Right now, a season or two not worrying about relegation, liquidation or points deductions would be a step forward.

The contract makes perfect sense if you want a new progressive manager to be handed a club with solid foundation rather than a relegation battle you could hope what Moyes did at West Ham could be done where where a few shrewd signings and next season it's a solid mid table finish and then you're looking for someone to take on that rather than this.
I'll go with it...like a said I'd have preferred a short term deal but I won't throw my toys out the pram over it.

I see the concerns about 2.5 years. I have them myself and Moyes. However if we survive, I think our other manager contracts will all be satisfied and the new revenue streams should allow us to pursue other options. If the right manager is available this summer I do think The new owners would eat 2 years Moyes contract assuming that is even true. I do wish we would actually look past the Premier League Experience requirement however

I wonder what this will mean for Thelwell? Moyes known to not tolerate Directors of Football that well and wants to control recruitment. Quite well documented how it was difficult between him and Tim Steidten at West Ham.
And if the Manager is prepared to take that responsibility then all the better. I can never get why a 'Director of Football' can call the shots with players and not be responsible week to week for the outcome.

Why not pair Moyes and Carsley till end of season and then decide on Carsley
Lee Carsley wants the job full-time having talks today - Moyes may get it as it's only for 6 months Carsley wants it full-time he knows all the young players in the England set up - managed England - he would be my choice as no 1 with Moyes as no 2 TBH - replacing DM for SD is like for like IMO .....
Usually, the man in the frame for a Manager's job seldom gets the position .... too much fantasy over DM IMO

I think I’m starting to resign myself to Moyes coming back, however I think there would be one ‘starter for 10’ in which he would restore my faith and regain my support.
That is, I think if appointed, he should wear a Texan 10 gallon hat at all times when in the dug out.
If he did that I think all would be forgiven.
