I get the disappointment if Moyes is the pick and if he's intended to be the manager for the next 2+ seasons or whatever. I really do.

But I don't see any real indication of that. Multiple journalists are reporting that it's an initial contract to the end of the season. If that's true, I can't quite understand the level of fume here.

Because these are the options as I see it, given where we are in time:

1) Hire a short-termer to make sure we don't get relegated (who better that's available and willing than Moyes?) and then keep the options open for getting one of our true first choices in the summer

or

2) Hire one of our second choices now (keeping in mind that the only ones available are ones who aren't in another job somewhere else - which might be an indicator of their desirability) and turn the whole multi-year project over to them going forward

I think #2 is what they're desperately trying to avoid. So #1 seems the clear winner here. It's a really long way away from next season's first match at BMD. If Moyes is leading us out then, I might be singing a different tune. But I don't think that's nailed in stone, even if he signs on tomorrow.

This is the big problem with it for me. We really needed an appointment to give some excitement and get people behind them but instead we’re making one which will have a large portion of the fan base offside from the start and ready to have their preconceived biases confirmed.

It doesn’t matter who we appoint mate, within 6 months to a year they will be criticised, we had Carlo Ancelotti and he was getting pelters within a year.

It’s inevitable, welcome it, where the change needs to come though, is that, that dissent needs to become irrelevant and not impact the club.

There will never be one unifying universal appointment amongst our fans. The closest in the modern era was actually Moyes, probably for the majority of his 12 years here.

The reality is we are where we are. We need someone who's available and going to be (relatively) inexpensive. Is it exciting? No. Can he help us stay jm the division and give the new owners a foundation to build on? Absolutely. If he can have us safe this year, mid table next year then I'd absolutely take that.

I wish it was different and they were queuing up to join us but Dyche gave up and couldn't even do the honourable by mutual consent thing. He was apparently asked what he needed to help and he didn't know (want to know).

Dyche didn't work wonders to keep us up last season despite the points deductions - it was the lowest points total in PL history to stay up. He knew he wasn't getting a new contract even if we stay up this season. His comments after Bournemouth about things looking different if you put a few wins in there could even be taken as he wasn't trying to win - it definitely looked that way.

Maybe Moyes is also the only out of work manager who would accept such a short contract if the 6 months is true?

No-one with any kind of reputation or leverage is going to sign a 6 month contract. We had to give Allardyce 18 months in similar circumstances.

Thankfully for me i can remember the Joe Royle era. He was a decent manager for us, he'll a decent enough job and he'll bring us a little bit of stability.

The first sentence in your post sums up everything that's gone wrong at Everton post 1987 sadly.

Yes it does, but that's where we are and likely where we will be for a long time. Unfortunately, if you want success this isn't the club to follow.

The problem you have with Moyes stems from the fact he wasn't a miracle worker. You wanted him to compete with the top 4 at the time, but while they were spending £30m on superstars, we were unearthing really good players for about one tenth of the price. It made us a good team but never quite at that very top level.

You mentioned that mediocre side Liverpool side that beat us in the semi final. Even on that day they had Gerrard and Suarez in the team while we had Magaye Gueye playing right mid.

I’m not saying someone else would be universally lauded, but there are people who would be given the benefit of the doubt far more than Moyes. I have a season ticket, and I know EXACTLY what criticisms I will hear from the people around me if we’re losing next week. As I’ve said, I’m not just moaning, I get it, but there’s no denying it’s an incredibly uninspiring appointment at a time when the fans are genuinely desperate to be inspired.

He had you finish 6th,7th,14th and 9th whilst winning the Conference league as well as quarter final and semi final of Europa league.

He's also got the highest win percentage of any West Ham manager.

Why are you pretending that is beneath West Ham?

In relation to Moyes ball..have you not seen our last manager was Dyche and prior to that Lampard as well as Benitez?

Where do you think the 5th biggest spenders in the premier league over the last 5 years should finish ?
