The Return of Hooliganism

It was completely different for a spell in the mid / late 80`s.

The away day specials were like Bob Marley and his band on tour, by the time you got to Warrington, everyone was stoned off their heads and the last thing on their minds was fighting. The old bill generally turned a massive blind eye to it, as a stoned train was a peaceful train.

Utter chaos some of the coaches now. I remember a few years ago when we played palace away when Silva was in charge, some fella had robbed a wooden owl ornament from the services on the way back and christened it Lucas after Lucas Digne. He then spent the rest of the journey home trying to feed Lucas lines of coke and ket, his seat was an absolute mess.

Hard lads of all the London teams put aside their allegiances to form one band of thugs who made their way to Euston or Kings Cross to pick off fans of teams making their way back up north.
That escalator journey up at Euston.....
I recall about 200 of us being cornered in by what seemed half of London, screaming arsenal arsenal....nothing happened.

The dream.

Match day going fans are slowly twigging onto the fact that unless they support one of the top three or four teams, they will probably never see their team win anything ever again. They’re trolled 24/7 by football social media, referees operate to a corrupt agenda for a few top teams, prices keep going up, mercenary players come and go, mercenary managers come and go, distant owners don’t care.

It’s no wonder some fans lose their rag and it spills over. There’s no excuse for it but it’s understandable why it happens.

Do you genuinely believe that?

Yes, turning up season after season to watch a rigged system and then getting ripped into all week for the effects of that rigged system? Of course it’s going to lead to frustration in fanbases. There’s no outlet for it. It’s not like they’ll get a sudden big win against a rival, or a trophy. They’re going season after season getting humiliated by the likes of Liverpool Coty Chelsea. Even teams like Spurs and Arsenal in the top 6 are racking up big streaks of not beating Chelse and Liverpool at certain grounds. Teams further down the league have got horrendous record against the top 6. They’re turning up to games hoping not to get snotted by 4 or 5 sometimes. It’s bound to lead to frustration, which in turn leads to hooliganism.

I think regarding many of the factors, such as drugs, this will play a part.

How does that explain Chelsea being an awful bunch of scrotes or Liverpool fans smashing up a coach?

Still sickened by the fighting after the 2009 Cup Final. One bloke had his head hit the ground so hard I could hear the crunch 30 yards away.

Thankfully there were no serious injuries

Just to add there wasn't a problem in 84, 85 or 86 with any of our trips to Wembley or indeed Rotterdam.

I think the point made earlier about cocaine being a serious issue makes sense. When I get drunk I want to quietly lie down and sleep. Never did drugs but they seem to be a serious factor with fans these days.

Mind you, when Shamrock Rovers play Bohemians there is inevitably fighting. Just pure hatred of each other. The most heavily policed fixtures in the League of Ireland every season. This hatred has gone on for decades.

I remember fighting by the away fans coaches in the 70’s snaps 80’s.

Kids would show up to brick the coaches.

The violence was managed for a hood while but seems to be creeping back. I think the government have to take a bit of blame. Football has been pushing kick out racism, so taking the knee was a natural development. Patel and Johnson sent out the message to the idiots that they could ignore and protest against it. I’m afraid nuanced messages don’t work with morons and they feel they have carte Blanche to do what they like.

I have had that feeling about football for a while now. Leicester will probably be the last club outside the top three of four to win the PL. Newcastle maybe, but they will probably run into all the FFP issues we have .
I don’t know if it is the root cause of violence, but I do think it will be part of the general demise of football. Once it is hopeless so even for big clubs, then it is app pointless.

Everton are a club that could go to the wall if we get relegated. I don’t know if we would meet championship FFP rules and our debt is huge.
