The Sancho is overrated thread

They're all being shoe-horned to facilitate Ronaldo, who isn't playing great himself. Look at the stats of Bruno Fernandes before Cristiano arrived and after.
Thing is, I am horrific at predicting almost anything related to football. But even I could see that this would happen. Maybe I can be the next United manager and convince Woodward that more static past-it strikers are the way forward and table a 70m bid for Rondzilla.

I think for the owners the signing of Ronaldo was far less to do with what he'd do on the pitch and more to do with the social media and advertising benefits.

Genuinely, I'm not sure the Glazers will be too bothered about the current results.

This move has convinced me that the German league absolutely is a farmer's league.

What happened to this lad?
He's come from a league that is very structured and detailed tactically, to OGS's Man Utd which is the exact opposite of that. His CL record is 11 goal involvements in 25 games so I think the argument that he looked good in a poor league doesn't fully stand up. He's been to the Nou Camp and Parc des Princes and looked like he belonged on that stage. He's still only 21 remember.

I think I would be perfect for them, I don't care about United results either. But, tractor partners and official cosmetic suppliers keep me going.

Totally agree with their motivation for signing Ronaldo though, love that it was being reported that City were in for him, genius marketing strategy by the player's representatives.

More the fact he's been asked to play as a winger/attacking forward in a non-counter attacking role in a more physical league.

Bottom line is he is a very passive player and why Greenwood and Rashford play over him as they go after a game rather than let it come to them. Can have all the skill in the world but if you're not moving the the right areas or getting up and down the pitch, you're going to be hit and miss.

Dele Alli comes to mind of the same type. Come alive in and around the box. Go missing most of the game anywhere else. Martial is a similar player.

Still got time to change that but every time I've seen him play...you don't know he's there most of the time.

United will get a new manager in...but they won't be playing some counter attacking football. He's not a Mane/Salah type that work hard in a front 3. He's also not an old school winger. So he's gonna have to change his style cos I don't see a team that would play to him at United.

Time will tell mate. What were Salah and Mane doing at 21? Less than what Sancho has done. He'll be fine IMO. Adjusting to a new team/league takes time sometimes.

Interesting take by Jonathan Wilson in the Guardian. Suggests City should have signed Sancho and Utd should have signed Grealish. The idea being that Sancho is a player who needs, and works well within a structured set up such as City's. Whereas Grealish, more of an individualist, could flourish at rudderless* Utd.

Not sure but he might have a point.

* My choice of words, not his

City had Sane basically similar to Sancho and Pep bombed him out. Grealish is 100% a Pep player (see Foden, Silva and even Mahrez). City have a load of players that can play Sancho's role but are missing an Aguero.

Grealish went to United is again more the point that they need a midfielder and not an attacking winger. He also gets in every side in the prem to be fair.

Of course. Not writing him off as a talented player. But he'll need to adapt cos I don't buy this idea that OGS killed him off and he's being used wrong. He probably didn't sanction buying him, found out he struggles as a wide player that generally Greenwood and Rashford play better at, so didn't play him (same with Davy Klassen mark 2)

He's been ridiculously hyped by the FIFA heads and the £80mill price tag is over the top (£50-60mill max imo) but doesn't mean he won't be a decent player.

Looks set to be added to the list of players United can't get a tune out of. Reminder that this list includes Romelu Lukaku and Angel Di Maria.
