The season fizzling out...

Take Leeds as an example, you cant tell me everyone of their players is better than ours, that is why they play that way and we play the way we do.

Leeds is like a Lego set that Bielsa designed and put together where he got to pick the parts that went into the box.

Everton right now is like a bunch of parts from four different Lego sets that Carlo managed to build into something cool after adding a few fancy pieces from other sets. Then some bully smashed what Carlo built and took half of the pieces.

It depends on whether or not the manager has been properly backed in the summer. If he is, he'll be under some pressure - which is a good thing as we need to re-establish standards. If he's not, then we'll know he's come for the quiet life and a slow gentle slide into retirement - unless he departs in a huff. Most importantly, we will know the ceiling of the Moshiri experiment. Everton have to put their money where their mouth is. You really do not hire the best manager of superior footballers in the world and provide him with Alex Iwobi, Tom Davies, and Josh King and imagine this is an optimal use of his genius.

Only Everton could hire the "diva whisperer" and give him divs to work with.

I agree, however we have also wasted a lot of money and unfortunately whatever model Brands is implementing doesn't appear to be fruitful at all.

Even if FFP wasn't a consideration, we aren't going to be spending on a par with the elite clubs.

There is a general attitude (and I'm not attributing it to you here) that we are a wealthy club and can afford to be profligate in transfer spending and frankly I don't know where that has come from.

Ancelotti certainly needs to be backed, but the important thing is that we spend our (limited) resources well. I think that Ancelotti would have accepted this approach in taking the job and building a quality squad on a progressive basis year on year.

We somehow have to reconcile plugging gaps in the squad with more players without compromising on quality in the longer-term. I say that deliberately because the strategy should always be based on scouting and gaining a real increase in value both in monetary terms and for players who can contribute before our eyes on the pitch for us.

That's what Spurs did in their purple patch - players like Alderweireld, Vertonghen, and Eriksen - all who went to to make significant contributions over an extended period of years and signed for relatively modest fees and before they hit their peak. That should be the profile of signings we look to make and it makes Brands approach look tired, stale, and completely uninspiring.

We can spend our way to success, but it will have to be done modestly within the constraints we know exist and so that means smart spending. It takes longer to bear fruit, but I think fans would be very accepting of that approach if it brought even small but visible and consistent improvements in performances and results year on year.

I could see us finishing 10th or lower now, because of the injuries and the squad. We will get destroyed by the media, particularly the Sam Allardyce lovers, it may make the rebuild harder in the summer with no champions league or even europa football to attract the players, but it didn't stop us attracting Allan, Doucoure and James so who knows. I think we will need 5 or 6 players brought in in the summer, maybe James will be on the phone with some of his old mates at Madrid and telling them how good it is here. The problem is that when you bring in 5 or 6 it can really upset the dressing room, they can take time to get going as we have seen oursleves and has happened to Chelsea this season

We don't get 3 points tmrw its done for this year, start looking at next season. Win tmrw and we have a chance to g on a run last 8 games. Il hold off

With the August excitement of the midfield signings now a very distant memory I’m looking at the remaining games and wondering if we will see another victory this season. Given the declining standard of football we are seeing and looking at the games that lie ahead I wouldn’t even be confident of beating Sheffield United who may well be relegated by the time the fixture comes round. That normally means relegated teams start picking up once they have their fate sealed. The rest of the games look really tough now whereas earlier in the season they didn’t. Anyone else contemplating zero wins between now and 23rd May. It could be a disastrous end to a promising season. I’m not normally this pessimistic but just feel drained of all expectation just now.
What an attitude to have but who could disagree? Actually unsure if I will even look at the results let alone watch after the Brighton game. Time on this planet is limited and I can think of better things to do with it at the mo'

Fight goddamn it!!! Till the end, Fight I say!!!

Do not go gentle into that good night!!!
Rage, rage against the dying of the light!!!!

Hopefully the players we get back for the spurs game can give us some attacking impetus and the belief we can still achieve something. I still believe!!!!

I just come across an interview with Sam Allardyce after the 5-1 defeat away to Arsenal in 2018. His quotes that day were, exactly. "I have alot of trouble with the players taking on to the pitch what we ask them to do. The consistency level has always been a worry" and "The longer we go on we are showing so much inconsistency".

Is this exactly the same issue CA is getting?

Is the players the big issue here? Or club mentality?

Some of the sets aren't even lego, they are those blag ones where you get loads but they annoyingly don't fit with standard lego.

Rob17896 - Everton is like the tide coming in and going out each season. Inevitably they just wear down even the hardest of rocks until they are just sand. I'm now sand. What time is the K.O. against Spurs.... can't... quite...escape...
