The Sinister 6 - Premier League Owners Charter

But they dont. Very few folk who follow football, follow a player. They attach themselves to a club.

Like some weird foreign fans might support whoever Messi or Ronaldo plays for, but literally no one in the UK does.
Chelsea and City are massive brands now because they have the best players. If other clubs had the best players people would care about them.

You're going to tell me football is different so I don't even know why I'm bothering to says this, but recently we've had smaller markets and support bases in the Super Bowl and NBA Finals over here. It has not been a disaster for the sports. In fact the Super Bowl set a viewership record. The club doesn't drive the viewership as much as everyone has been led to believe and there are a hell of a lot more neutral observers for every game than supporters of each club. I doubt football will realize this as all the power is with the men who actually don't have any interest in changing it but it would be a positive overall and it would work to even the playing field.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying if Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva played for Watford people would be as eager to watch them as they are when they're at City.
Why would the likes of KDB choose to play for Watford?

There's a reason he plays for one of the wealthiest clubs on the planet and it's not to do with them being propped up by the PL.

So why do folk support Watford?

On the "brand" thing, you are correct. But that is largely foreign "customers", it isnt the game millions of UK supporters know.

Sure, some 8 year olds in the UK will plump for the current Sky darling when they get interested in the game, but they wont change that support when they are 18 and Newcastle win the league.

Again I'm not really talking about supporters. There are lots of more casual football watchers out there who will put on a CL semi final who aren't going the match every week.

As for your last paragraph yes that's right but there aren't going to stop being children. So when Newcastle win the league there will be new 8 year olds. And if 10 years past that Watford won there would be 8 year olds then too.

The point is more that the wealth could be spread within the game and it wouldn't kill the game. I understand the current realities.

The wealth is spread evenly tho.

Teams get a merit payment based on how they finish in the league and other money based on how attractive they are to the viewing public.

I know we like to cry about things on here, but the system is currently as fair as it could be IMO.

I suppose you would like to see the Murican system which rewards failure, a terrible system that has no place in modern sport.

That's just an awful take

I find the whole thing pathetic.

Wha wha, other clubs have improved their brand while we suck donkey penis.

People dont want fair, they want things to benefit them.

The current system rewards success.

Be successful if you want the pie.
The current system does not reward success. It only restricts who can be successful.
