Not really, although I'd say that about the fee perhaps...The club had been linked to him for a couple of years now - his versatility, size, strength, pace, leadership & defensive qualities will mean big minutes for him...32 is not ideal but his form has been excellent

Perhaps - and they do need a defender - but he hasnt exactly stood out as one of the best defenders in Spain, and that is a lot of money. There are better and younger players out there that would have cost less.

Yeah, I don't agree with that at all...There's some stat on his tackles last season that were the 2nd most in the league, he has all the intangibles you'd hope for in a defender IMHO...Obviously, he's older than you'd ideally want but he's been the defensive lynchpin for Valencia's defense for years which explains why he was also Captain...He reminds me of Abidal in many ways

It's an alright signing but the defence still needs strengthening.
 

Think Mathieu could be a good signing if he plays at centre half. Always seems to me that Pique is a bit like David Luis in that he needs a defender with a strong character next to him. You watch Pique next to Puyol or David Luis next to Thiago Silva and they look like world beaters. You take away your Puyols and your Silvas and they look like Kolo Toure.

Just saw dodgy arry on sky sports saying his got the best two centre backs in the premier League in caulker and stroke face Ferdinand!.
