The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

I think this squad could finish higher than 6th, tbh. And 30 million could get you some fine players.

Like I said it all depends on martinez.

Oh I agree we have a very good squad.. I just feel that even with a 30 million pound spend the other clubs above us will still outspend us and the gap will widen even further bit by bit every year,, It's a sad state of affairs really.

Agreed mate. 30m last season and I think we would have got CL easy. Who knows what Martinez would do? Not ****ging him off btw as he may well fimd some hidden gems. But the ****e are proof that 30m spent on crap gets you nowhere as they have been doing that for a few seasons and for the last 2 seasons I've always felt we would finish above them.

Yes it probably would have, but would it be enough this year taking into account what other clubs have spent ?

I don't get this mate.

We've signed 4 players and lost nobody of note.

Surely better than say last summer?

I agree.

*Joel at least has some future as our backup 'keeper.
*Stones and Oviedo look like giving us genuine cover at fullback.
*Heitinga is looking interested again, if he's staying.
*Naismith can be considered a genuine option this year.
*Barkley is rough around the edges but he won't develop if he doesn't play.
*Deulofeu is by far a better wide alternative than Gueye.
*Jelavic is back!
*Kone and Alcaraz give us greater strength in depth in their respective positions.

If you compare Osman/Fellaini/Gibson to Gomez/McCarthy/Maloney we have power but they're much more mobile and comfortable on the ball. Our central midfield is going to need to evolve but Martinez will have to either spend money or find a diamond to make that happen and it could take some time to settle on the best option. Overall we're pretty strong though.

Spurs are now far superior. Swansea have improved.
The ****e will surely be spending soon and approving.
While we spent £7 Million and not really improved out starting 11.

Did you read my other response mate?

The exact same happened last year. And the year before.

I repeat. Look at QPR last summer. Looked to have improved. Went down.

A team like Norwich look to have strengthened. What if all their new players flop?

I just don't get why we have to be negative all the time. We have a good team. And have lost nobody.

I don't necessarily think that Spurs are far superior. Bale won something like 23 points for them last season and they still finished outside the CL places. I was pretty impressed with what I saw of Soldado recently but there will be a lot of weight on his shoulders. Their squad is horribly imbalanced and they're likely to start the season with a crisis at CB. If Defoe moves on they're going to be short up front too. And if Parker joins QPR they're not going to have many old heads to see them through games.

I think that the RS could actually miss Reina, Downing, Carragher and potentially also Agger and Skrtel. They've had a pretty solid defence over recent years and Johnson could end up as the only remaining starter before too long. They're heavily reliant on just one player too. It's hard to imagine that he'll continue to perform so well for them if he feels that they've betrayed him. And virtually all of their foreign signings are young and unproven.

It looks like we could consolidate. If Jelavic and Kone can both manage 10-15 goals and we have midfielders (especially Mirallas) chipping in, we shouldn't be too far away.

The difference this year is a NEW MANAGER and a NEW way of playing. It,s all going to be about momentum in the first 3 or4 matches because as we go into Sept it will all be about confidence gained frrm the opening games in Aug against the bigger sides in Sept.

Play well and Win games in Aug then it sets you up for Sept or play badly and loose games in Aug and it becomes a mountain in sept.

tough call, as things stand right now today and if we spent 30m wisely on quality additions then maybe it would. City and Chelsea we wouldnt catch, will be interesting to see how utd do this season, then theres Arsenal who haven't strengthened yet and Spurs have a lot of depth and quality. I hate saying 6th is as good as it gets or 4th is the wholly grail. Makes the season **** in a way when we already know the order of the top teams. I am just gonna do what I do every season mate and that is pray for a miracle to occur. What I will say though is if we hadn't of drawn the amount we did last season we would have been right in the mix of things so you never know if the season may pan out the same way but can we nick a few more wins along the way.

If we added no other players and no one went out - would everyone be happy with the squad for the season?

...it's a really good question. I think you'd have to say we are stronger because nobody will have left and we've brought a few in. Saying that, I suspect we will be playing with a different approach, so much will depend on what RM can do with the players at his disposal.
Its funny that everybody is expecting RM to put his own footprint on Everton, but at Utd the fans want Moyes to provide continuity after SAF.

Everton and Liverpool target Toby Alderweireld seems set to join Spartak Moscow from Ajax. (Source: The Times)

I think the Guardian said there was interest from Russia but the player didn't want to go there. He had a really good partnership with Vertonghen at Ajax and that would seem to be his best-suited destination.
