Why stop there, how about putting Gary Glitter through his coaching badges, and appoint him as our new manager and representing Everton football club?

Using "Footlonghotdog"'s analogy, as long as he turned out to be good and could lead us to a cup win, who gives a **** eh?

Imagine how ripe our academy would be!

Alcaraz would be a fine backup, he's not ****e and he's not brilliant either, but he's free and won't be asking for big wages.

The age thing is a poor argument. The guy is 30 years old, which is fine for a centre half, and he's on a free transfer. Not as if he's going to cost £5m like Distin did (and that transfer worked out quite well).

From what i have seen of alcaraz he is a good player, wigan fans i know speak highly of him and think much of their problems last season was down to his injuries (and some of the other defenders). He is very Comfortable on the ball and for free you cant argue.

It was one incident when he was playing for Wigan, not Everton, I could understand your moral outrage if he did it in the Royal Blue, but to say it's reason enough to not want him at the club, when there's plenty of others e.g. Rooney, who've done similar that you'd take in a heartbeat (despite your BS denials btw) is totally disingenuous imo.

Heitinga doesn't want to be here, He's told us sell him or he's off. We must get shut this summer, he's on too much money anyway, we can't afford his wages. That's part of the reason I'd sell Fellaini as well.

I think it was Sheedy who said this a few days ago when he said he would be our 1st signing, he's certainly only on that now.

How do you know he won't be 4th or 5th choice centre half. We don't, but I would expect Martinez to give the youth a chance and as someone who has seen a lot of Duffy, has always spoke very highly of him, I expect him to quickly prove to Martinez he should be closer to 1st team starts than he has been.

I agree a replacement for Distin is needed but I would saying there other positions more important at the moment where we are glaringly lacking. Usually signing a centre half takes time to work on the partnership etc which I don't think many of our fans will give Martinez. Imagine he drops Distin and gets rid of Heitinga and the new partnership starts like Jags and Distin did last year, he will get slaughtered. He's got to go with tried and tested at the moment in that area imo.

Simple because Duffy has only played a few PL game while Stones hasn't even played once. Heitinga is leaving so bringing in Alcaraz means Martinez doesn't want untested kids as 3rd choice CB. However, I agree that we need to strengthen other positions. CB isn't the priority this season, maybe next season.

What are our chances of getting Bill Roache in mate? Are you for or against this?

He wil be 31 next month though.

I am not against signing Alcaraz as Heitinga is leaving. But I think we need a replacement for Distin soon.

If Alcaraz joins , I fully expect him to form a partnership with Jags next season. Martinez clearly prefers playing a CB who brings the ball out of defence. If he has the same impact as our last signing from Wigan has had, I'd be well happy. Think I reserve my opinion on him untill I've seen him play a season or so for us.

Be nice if we could sign first team players in their prime without worrying about sell on's and their age. FFS Bill.

This makes the most sense I think.

And hey. If we don't get him it will be an Escape From Alcaraz.

(Has that been done already?)

Exactly

There's a tendency to label players as either shyte or ace

I've seen every single player in the Everton squad described as both at different times
