....and you know this...how ?

assuming people occasionally getting confused with what is going on with some computer games and the real world. when he slams in a 30 yarder at ANfield to grab winner in the last minute, we will still get taunted by the Reds with..'no sell on value, he ain't got no sell on value'

Ok. You want to spend £6m plus (in reality Villa will ask for more) on a 29 years old. What a relieved you ain't Martinez.

And by the same token, you are playing FM too.

I think you're digging yourself into (another) hole here. So are you suggesting that we should not have bought Distin, Richard Gough, and all the other 29 years old or older players we have acquired because they have 'no sell on value' ? You don't think we should ever spend a fee on a 29 year old?

Never played a computer game in my life, I'm afraid....no time !

haven't played football manager but I am assuming that it would take into account an improved finishing position and other advantages to having a goalscorer for 3 years. its not my money. you maybe right he may not see the point but think someone else will and my gut feeling is it will work out for them

We paid £5m for a 30 year old Distin.

We also paid £4.5m for a 30 year old Pienaar

I say striker.

Lescott was gone for £22m so we bought Distin - affordable.

We got £3m for Pienaar initially so we spent £1.5m on him. And Pienaar was so importent to this team we had to buy him back.

In fact, he's slightly younger than Jagielka and therefore can be argued to be lowering the overall age of the squad. Now that cant be a bad thing!

Some people are determined to have a go at the new Everton manager. We have a wafer thin squad and he's trying to build it up...and our new manager gets slammed for it...even before it's happened!!

What strange times we live in.

Agreed. We have a wafer thin squad and Martinez won't be able to rebuild it in this transfer window, or even the next two. We don't have the funds for squad revolution and he can't just chuck all the kids in at once, so it makes sense that he will assess his current squad and decide where he needs to add players, then look at the potential signings we would have to pay top dollar for, the ones available for less, and the ones he can get for free.

I think we'll see a mixture of all of those and Alcaraz is a decent option to replace Heitinga, who clearly is angling for a move again and will be worth nothing next summer, but at the moment we're all in the dark as to his plans because we don't know if Felli is being sold. Our transfer kitty will look very different if the rumours are true and he is sold, but unless RM knows for sure what is happening on that front he's probably having to draw up two different shopping lists, with maybe one or two names in common.

Various articles today suggest that Arsenal are waiting for permission from us to talk to Fellaini, so if that's true maybe things will start to move soon and RM will know exactly what shelf of the supermarket he's shopping from this summer.

Read my post above - I say striker for god sake.

And we made £22m for Lescott so we had no choice but to buy Distin as a replacement on 31/8. Gough was free.

How is £5m for a 30 yr old Distin 'affordable' when your argument is about resale value?

What we originally paid for Pienaar is irrelevant - the facts are that we paid £4.5m for a 30 year old & both deals blow holes in your argument, as the resale value is only 1 factor in deciding whether the deal offers VALUE. Pienaar was considered value at £4.5m due to his contribution to the side - who's to say that a goal scorer like Bent wouldn't be viewed in exactly the same manner? As we all know that with a quality striker in the side last season, we'd have probably made the top 4.........

You just assume there will be an improved finishing position.

And when was the last time Bent scored more than 10 league goals? 2009-2010 season.
