The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

Agreed. We have a wafer thin squad and Martinez won't be able to rebuild it in this transfer window, or even the next two. We don't have the funds for squad revolution and he can't just chuck all the kids in at once, so it makes sense that he will assess his current squad and decide where he needs to add players, then look at the potential signings we would have to pay top dollar for, the ones available for less, and the ones he can get for free.

I think we'll see a mixture of all of those and Alcaraz is a decent option to replace Heitinga, who clearly is angling for a move again and will be worth nothing next summer, but at the moment we're all in the dark as to his plans because we don't know if Felli is being sold. Our transfer kitty will look very different if the rumours are true and he is sold, but unless RM knows for sure what is happening on that front he's probably having to draw up two different shopping lists, with maybe one or two names in common.

Various articles today suggest that Arsenal are waiting for permission from us to talk to Fellaini, so if that's true maybe things will start to move soon and RM will know exactly what shelf of the supermarket he's shopping from this summer.

100% agree with all that.

I'd kind of prefer it if we didn't get any resale money from a lot of our players, if I'm honest.

I'd rather flog baines for a million at 37 than for 20 million, now.

If we can get 6-8 million for Jelavic (which west ham were talking about spending on him) and spend that on bent, then that's up front sorted for the next few years. And maybe in 2-3 years time we'll need to raise money again and we can't sell our striker cos he's old but if we've done well cos he scores lots then that money will be made up from other sources. You get 1 million extra pounds from every place in the league, for one.

I say striker.

Lescott was gone for £22m so we bought Distin - affordable.

We got £3m for Pienaar initially so we spent £1.5m on him. And Pienaar was so importent to this team we had to buy him back.

I assume he would be bought on the assumption that its 6 million we wont get back, if he does grab goals for us then to be honest I wouldn't sell at 31 or 32 even if offered something. he is as reliable as anyone in terms of goalscoring, and the fact he still grabs goals when he comes on at Villa when I assume his confidence is low, is very good sign. even from financial point of view you got to weigh up whether we can afford a few seasons without someone grabbing 15 or more goals

How is £5m for a 30 yr old Distin 'affordable' when your argument is about resale value?

What we originally paid for Pienaar is irrelevant - the facts are that we paid £4.5m for a 30 year old & both deals blow holes in your argument, as the resale value is only 1 factor in deciding whether the deal offers VALUE. Pienaar was considered value at £4.5m due to his contribution to the side - who's to say that a goal scorer like Bent wouldn't be viewed in exactly the same manner? As we all know that with a quality striker in the side last season, we'd have probably made the top 4.........

Because we made a huge profit on Lescott and we need a ready made replacement signed on the last day of the transfer window.

And don't dare to say Bent is a savior because the last time he scored more than 10 PL goals was the 2009-2010 season.

As I have said, Piennar was so important to this team so we had to sign him back. I think the original fee was relevant, you don't.

re darren bent why does there have to be re sale value.. if he got 50/60 goals over three seasons he would be well worth 6 million..

What make you think he can score 50/60 goals over 3 seasons? The last time he scored more than 10 league goals was 5 seasons ago.

Leave the petty squabbles over computer games elsewhere please.

All thats happened is that a poster has suggested that myself and another poster play Football Manager and we've both confirmed that we don't. Certainly not a squabble on my part, with respect.

Bent is a PROVEN PL striker, who, when fit & starting regularly, has always been roughly a 1 in 2 goal scorer.

At £6m @ 29, he'd be good value imo, you disagree, but your argument has changed from resale value to ability. If it's the latter then that's merely your subjective opinion, if it's the former, I think you're just plain wrong, as the examples given prove.
