So he didn't score ten league goals in either of the last two seasons, basically. Having done it in 5 of the 6 seasons prior.

Of thsoe two seasons in 2011-12 he was injured and got ten goals in 25 games all comps which isn't terrible and 2012-13 he fell out with lambert and only started 12 games so 6 isn't too bad.

To me it's like when blackburn bought yakubu, he hadn't been firing of late but they still knew he could do it when asked.

I agree he has some good days but if there is a choice, I rather spend the money on younger strikers. We have enough aging players.

Young strikers tend to go for big fees, though.

£8m in the 'young British striker' market, buys you a League 1 Jordan Rhodes mate.

For £6m we'd be getting a foreign unproven 'punt', that can go extremely well e.g. Benteke or be a total flop e.g. Boselli

I would like to throw the name Jordi Gomez into the discussion concerning squad strengthening. I know, I know! And I'm not talking first teamer here.

Last year of his contract, shouldn't be that much cost. He's struggled at Wigan for sure, went backwards as a playmaker, but he's followed Martinez about a lot and I think if the price is right he'd bring him in. He has the ability to find space and hold onto the ball which I think RM appreciates. Worth a punt at £1M?
