The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

I would like to throw the name Jordi Gomez into the discussion concerning squad strengthening. I know, I know! And I'm not talking first teamer here.

Last year of his contract, shouldn't be that much cost. He's struggled at Wigan for sure, went backwards as a playmaker, but he's followed Martinez about a lot and I think if the price is right he'd bring him in. He has the ability to find space and hold onto the ball which I think RM appreciates. Worth a punt at £1M?

I can only imagine the thread had Moyes made an approach for said player.......

tbf, I don't mind him.

Though I've made my Martinez concerns clear in the other thread, I give the man far more credit than simply signing Alcaraz, McCarthy and Simpson and calling it a day for the summer. Chaps, I would be astonished if he doesn't make concerted efforts to strengthen up front, he is going to need a new backup goalkeeper, I'm not sure we will go into the season with Oviedo and pienaar (left) and mirallas (right) as our wide options, either. Looking at his previous squads, I would imagine he will bring in a couple of filler players who aren't the first team quality we are used to, then go ahead and make the "marquee" (a term I use very loosely) signings. The real concern for me would be McCarthy, simply as it would suggest that the Barkley / Fellaini / Gibson axis many people were hoping to see this season won't be on the cards. If Fellaini does leave, surely he won't be putting McCarthy in as his replacement - not many people could justify that.

I agree he has some good days but if there is a choice, I rather spend the money on younger strikers. We have enough aging players.

agreed we need to take a few gambles on younger players who may do it for us, but it isn't one thing or another, and watching Bent, who is unarguable someone who has done it at a few clubs with different styles will prob help young strikers. to be honest this prob won't happen because he will go for lot more

Would only have bent as a squad player tbh has had injury problems lately and with west ham bidding for the likes of negredo we should be looking to make a statement of intent in the market to show our top players we have ambition

Agreed, Bent is English, Villa will probably ask for £12m.

West Ham are richer than Everton though. Ask Kenwright.

To be fair, West Ham have been given a huge financial boon with their upcoming move into the Olympic Stadium - they can afford to raise the sort of finance our board is either unwilling or unable to - they can afford those kinds of fees. I would be massively more concerned if we have £10m available but choose to sink it on McCarthy, that would indeed be a very poor statement of intent.

I think there's a contractual issue over Bent tbh, as they paid £18m for him but with increments that could reach £24m. I wondered if one of the reasons for his continued absence last season (aside from the fall out with Lambert) was financially driven? if so, they've got to let him go & they'll have to be flexible with the fee if the 'word' has got out.

really hk toffee ur not martinez... im shocked.
but every player mentioned u shoot down
who in ur opinion should we buy

I am shocked too you are not Martinez how on earth you know he is going for the players that I have "shot down"?

I did not shoot down the like such as Fer though.

Yeah. I agree on your view.

Who do you think is a realistic target for us though? You seem to just shoot everyone else's opinions down without offering anything yourself.

Alcaraz will be a good signing to have on the bench, he is free, so no initial outlay, and his wages will be low> He is a solid defender, and probably one of their best defenders in 2011-2012, last season injury took him out of the game for the essential part of Wigan's season, It could be worse boys, it could be Gary Caldwell.

Danny Simpson is a squad player, if he is free, he is worth having in the squad he is never going to be a first teamer, but he can play either right or left or central midfield at a push. For free, I would take him on a year by year contract.

Darren Bent is a natural Goal scorer, he has attitude issues which has hindered his career, for 6 Million quid we will get one season of 20 goals, and he will throw his toys out of the pram. I would rather see us spend a bit more money and have a punt on Jordan Rhodes.

Jordi Gomez again would be a squad player, I don't think he is good enough for us, but would bulk out the squad a bit. if he signs I wont complain, but I wouldn't go out my way to support the signature.

From wigan, we should look to get the Mcarthur, Maloney and MacMananman that is all.

Hetinga should be sold, just to get his wages off the books, and I would rather see felli go over Baines.
