The only player I've seen who is genuine first team quality is Barkley. The rest need to go out on loan and prove themselves. The mythical world class defender who we ignore Duffy included. (No offence lad)

Mcmanaman was good enough and Martinez didn't play him, is my worry. It's no coincidence they started winning games for the first time last season when he finally put him in the team and it bothers me that didn't happen until march.

Unless we agree he wasn't good enough to start for wigan in the league when he played us at goodison?

Lovren is a superb centre half. Bit of a hot head but top quality.

Nice to see Southampton showing a little ambition.

Weren't we linked with Lovren for a bit? What ever happened to that? He looked great in the Euro Cup this year, would've been a good addition.

Chill, most of his mo is to cultivate youth imo, the questions are whether he can strengthen this aspect whilst keeping us away from the trap door in the short term, and the qualitative aspect of his cultivation in the medium-long

Once a young player gets into his team (McCarthy, Moses, Sinclair, McManaman) they tend to stay there but he isn't as eager to give them that first chance as people make out.

I don't think it's a myth but I do think it's overstated.

Playing youth is all about timing, pullin them out when needed, making them feel like superstars in the making when needed. It's really not as simple as some make out with youth players. There's also more than just putting a name on a team sheet when selecting teams etc.... But hey we all play footy manager or FIFA and know better lol

On youth, we could always go down the villa route and escape relegation by the skin of our teeth!?!? They were a fortunate benteke signing away from dropping out the top flight for the first time in how many years....

I agree it is frustrating, but it is probably £7m with an £8m get out clause...

Heitinga is leaving and Distin won't last long. I am really disappointed a player of such quality has signed for Soton not Everton.
