Honda looked good technically (in brazil game) but his engine is a questionmark, and workrate over all. i might be wrong there cause that was just one game but...atm im not overly excited about getting him.
They were saying he's been carrying an injury, wasn't expected to last as long as he did in that match.

Am I totally wrong here or did Martinez actually say he wanted to bring in AT LEAST 2-3 players? English is not my first language, but doesn't that mean, that's the minimum he wants to bring in?

I'm more than convinced that Martinez is fully aware of our strengths and weaknesses. I expect a busy summer ahead.

Martinez has talked about bringing in 2 or 3 new players. I think we need more like double that. Let's take a look:

Gk: Howard, Springthorpe. We definitely need experienced back up to replace Mucha. There are plenty of bosmans to choose from such as Schwarzer, Turnbull, Hilario, Wright and Manninger.

RB: Coleman, Hibbert and Stones. Provided that Hibbo stays fit to offer experienced cover we should be alright here.

CB: Jagielka, Distin, Heitinga and Duffy. Johnny won't sign a new contract and only has 12 months left on his current one, so we should sell him. Alcaraz on a free seems to make sense to be our third choice senior.

LB: Baines, Oviedo, Garbutt. We're covered.

RM: Mirallas, Barkley, Osman and Naismith can all cover the role. It would be good to bring Donovan in on a free in January too though.

CM: Fellaini, Gibson, Osman. If, as expected, Fella does leave we could probably do with two central midfielders since we won't have Neville, Heitinga or Hitzlsperger to fill in. Fer is an obvious candidate. I'd be surprised if we could tempt Honda to Goodison but it would be good to have someone with vision to help knit things together.

LM: Pienaar, Oviedo, Gueye. I imagine that Magaye will be staying in France permanently. McManaman is equally at home on either flank and could be an option.

ST: Jelavic, Anichebe, Vellios, McAleny. It would be good to have someone quite bullish like Lukaku, Benteke or Ba to occupy defenders. None of our current options seem to have the confidence to be a top striker but could offer something in a supporting role. It has to be our priority area.

So, 'keeper, centreback, two central midfielders, one wide man and a striker= six players needed.

You're assuming that Heitinga and Fellaini are definitely going, and haven't included Barkley as a CM. I think 3 would be fine if everyone stayed. Obviously if we lost anyone they'd need to be replaced though.

But he didn't say 'Just 2-3 players'....

I don't buy that we need six players either.

Howard is fine in goal, imo. He had a good return after his injury.

We only need one CM assuming Fellaini goes, i believe Barkley will see plenty of game time and that would leave us with Barkley/Osman/Gibson/New player.

If anything i'd be more inclined to get two wide players in and give Mirallas free roam behind whoever we have playing up front. Let him relax on the defensive duties and just do what he does best.

I don't dispute Stones can cover at RB but apparently he's ultimately more likely to end up at CB.

We don't need a keeper this year we just want one. A great way for clubs in our financial position to screw themselves is to decide to buy a certain position one year and force it through even when the available players aren't good enough/are too expensive. If we can get a young promising GK that's great but we don't *need* it like we need other spots.

What we *need* IMO is (excluding young players we might buy for 500k here and there and just focusing on players who would be likely first 11 or subs):

1-2 CBs. Just one if Duffy is ready. 2-3 new if he wants to play three at the back (obviously just one would be a potential first 11 type and then more squad types for the rest ... even a Hitz type signing for squad depth here would be acceptable in a pinch ... not my dream scenario obviously but being realistic).

One deep lying playmaker type (maybe a DM too but he could be more backup level).

RM. Mirallas needs to be AMC.

Striker or two.

His "two or three" might just be keeping expectations low and not meant to be taken literally.

Three is the absolute bare minimum (CB, midfielder and striker).

Two leaves us exposed somewhere.

I think four (CB, CM, RM, Striker) is the minimum if the board wants to seriously back RM.

Turnbull
Alcaraz

They'll be ok signings, won't cost us anything and won't be bad squad players.
