Couldn't disagree more. Mirallas for me is a far more superior player than Mertens. Personally can't really see all the fuss about Mertens. Not a bad player, but certainly not as superb as some try to make out on here.

Did you think that while Kev was in Greece ??!!!

I love Kev he is brilliant. But how good he is has NO baring on how much we Mertens will leave for.

You are talking 15 million Euro's for him.

Jelavic and heitinga out for a combined 8 mil or so

Bring in:

Belhanda 6 mil
Bony 10 mil
Mertens 6 mil

Belhanda can play on the wing and in a CDM role

Howard

Coleman jagielka distin baines

Gibson Felliani belhanda

Mertens bony mirallas

Top 6 that boys

Haha besides the figures that are totally off base (Belhanda deal is 11.5 already agreed with multiple clubs) the fact that you think Belhanda is a defensive midfielder or winger is just plain wrong. He plays as an attacking midfielder and almost always in the center. Montpellier pushed Remi Cabela (Who I wouldn't mind having) out wide to accommodate Belhanda in the middle.

Think you need to watch belhanda more often then son as he has been utilised on the wing a number of times including for the national side

I've watched him plenty and the reason he gets moved out for the national team is because Adel Barrada is boss. Also you totally negate any opinion posted when you only address one half of your fallacies. When has he ever played in a defensive midfield role?

If we could keep everyone, and to sign 1 player to make a difference. I would go with Christian Ericksen.

Him, or a player like that, infront of a midfield consisting of Fellaini, Gibson, Osman, Pienaar, Barkley. Would be superb.

And maybe bring the best out of Jella.....or play Kev uptop.

With just an outlay of £12 million.

I like this idea. I feel there are two major problems with this team:
-getting the ball from the defense to the attack efficiently and safely, without hoofing it through the air
-creating finishing opportunities for the striker

I think the first is being dealt with. We need CDMs who are decent on the ball, like Gibson and Fellaini. And make Jags pass to the guy in front of him. I think the ideal pairing helps this, but Felli helps on offense too, so we need cover. Fer or maybe McCarthy (not too familiar with him) seem designed for this role.

The second, we need an incisive through ball and someone who can stay onside and run onto it well. Jela had so many one touch finishes his first half, then he got pushed into a more creative role, and he struggles on the ball and creating. He needs to be by the goal, making problems for the defenders and keeper. A pacey, tricky player in CAM would help this. I think Barkley may be able to do this, but in the meantime we really need someone like Eriksen or a poor-mans Silva or Cazorla, who can bend a ball in front of the striker for him to crush at the goal. Jela has proven to be a great striker of the ball when given proper service, and we all know that Victor can really hit the ball well, and finish under pressure.
