i dont understand why some people are so pre occupied with re sale value. if a player comes in and plays well, socres goals and helps us finish higher up the table i for one would not be too worried about his resale vlue.. its what happens in the imeediate future that is more important..

Reported, unnecessary

Absolutely, if Martinez believes KoneHead will score goals for us, happy days!

We need a goal scorer, not someone to sell in a few years time.

There is simply no evidence to suggest that we have £15m ready to spend. You've plucked that figure out of thin air. And if we want to climb the table, or seriously try for a cup, we need a bigger squad with more quality competing for the starting spot at more positions. We are paper-thin on the wings and at CM/DCM; much of the depth at ACM is questionable (Osman's age, Barkley's inexperience, Naismith's quality); the only position where we have real depth is striker!

As for the idea that we must have more to spend because the likes of Norwich do - I fail to see the link between the cashflows of two totally seperate businesses. Do Norwich bung us a few hundred grand every so often?

That barely counts as an opinion - you've simply listed every possible approach that can be taken.

Happy with Alcaraz then? Who else do you see in that price bracket? Climb down off the fence in your own time. Vermaelen would be at least £5m, as would Lescott. Who do you see us bringing in at a lower price?

It's fair to say that our reserves (Lundstram et al) aren't ready yet; no-one wants to see Osman in CM again, do they? Gibbo is having an operation over the summer, will he be ready to go come August 17th? Barkley could use another loan out (although he is arguably ready to start for us now), bringing in Honda for £5m would actually aid Barkley's development by facilitating such a loan; We used Neville and Hitz at times in CM/DCM last year - we need to replace them, preferably with better-standard players.

A couple of squad wingers for a combined total of £3m will not bring in ANYONE capable of competing for a starting spot. You'd just be buying more Kennedys. And how much do you REALLY think we'd get from selling Naismith?

The one area we already have depth, and you want to spend £10m on a new player. Give me a name of someone you think we can get in that price range, and I'll show you someone who is no better than an on-form Jelavic. Remember Spurs, Arsenal, WBA, Newcastle, Swansea and City are shopping for strikers too.

I think I've comprehensively demonstrated the flaws in your argument, seeing as it was all based on the fiction of an pre-existing transfer fund of £15m, to be swelled by the sale of Jelavic, Naismith and Heitinga. How much do you see those three going for, £10m? £12m? That's the exact sum you wanted to spend on a striker, so that leaves your original £15m to bolster defence, midfield and the wings. And remember that you made up the £15m to start with.

To progress we need the quality of our squad to improve over more than just the 11 on the pitch - the way to do this is to buy BETTER players than we have already, moving some of our existing starters on to the bench, and this costs money. Selling Fellaini is the most appropriate way to raise the necessary funds because it raises the most money and reduces the squad (in terms of total numbers) the least.

You have basically read nothing I've said, or failed to understand what I've said!
No I don't know there is 15M to spend anymore than you don't think there is 15M to spend, it's an opinion mate! With the TV money I believe there is...you don't whatever! I don't believe Norwich and the likes would be spending as they are if it wasn't for that extra TV money...again it's an opinion mate!

Vermalan and lescott minimum of 5M? Ok so the point I made was with 3M from heitinga and adding a couple of mill £0 - 3M we could add a CB better than heitinga.... 3M + £0 - 3M spend = up to 6M! As for alcaraz?? Then yes I'd take him for free if it allowed Duffy a loan season.

Can't be bothered going thru all your other points.

Standing up for truth, justice and the American way.

In topic again as people are trying to drag it off, good to see okeefe poo-poo our chances of getting mcgeady

You're a long way from home, Jack.

Honda, Kone would both improve the starting 11 - simple as that really

Let me be the first to say

이청용 발리 오세요! Kone와 mcgeady보다 더 좋아요.

Looks like McGeady and Alcaraz are coming in then...
As we approach the end of June the doom and gloom merchants are rearing their heads again where Everton Football Club are concerned. So as an antidote to those guys I thought we would give a little update on what we have been told regarding Everton’s player recruitment plans.

The way I see it things have been quiet generally on the transfer front so far. Yes some clubs have made moves in the transfer market already, but in the main it has been a very normal and quiet June for most clubs. Once July 1st is here and players report back to training, moves for players increase and things begin to bubble over. The fact that Everton have been quiet so far has been magnified by our neighbours doing their business early. In my opinion this is the correct thing to do but this takes money which as we know Everton don’t have bags of.

Another thing for us to consider is that for the first time in 11 years Everton have a new man at the helm and he will do things his way. We know that Roberto is busy working behind the scenes scouting players and assessing what areas of the squad he feels needs improving. Roberto Martinez left his first press conference as Everton manager and headed straight for Finch Farm where he went to work immediately on what changes he wanted to make and outlined his plans for the summer. This fact alone should fill Blues supporters with optimism for when he takes over officially on Monday morning. To have a manager that is so young, hungry and driven is exactly what Everton needed following David Moyes decision to leave the Blues.

Roberto has already said that he hopes that his new charges can keep their resilience and will to win and then he will attempt to marry that up with his own personal ideas and extra attacking play, He has stated that he hopes to give the Blues a new and identifiable style under the Spaniard.

Footyscene.com have been informed that there are a few things bubbling underneath at the moment where new players are concerned and the sooner the first one comes through the door the better in my opinion. I think it gives the club a feeling of progression and drirection when new players arrive at the club.

I had a personal desire that Roberto Martinez’s first signing would be a significant signing for the Blues in terms of quality as it is a big moment for both himself and the football club. However, he has already identified some targets and and whilst what he wants to achieve as Everton manager.

One of the reasons he stood out for Bill Kenwright was his ability to unearth talent that can have a higher re-sale value in the future. This was one of the things that the Everton Chairman felt vital as Everton had enjoyed this under previous boss David Moyes. For a club without bags of money to spend this is perhaps THE most important thing in terms of assessing a new manager’s qualities and abilities.

Everton have been linked with many players over the last few weeks, some people like, others they don’t, but we have to trust Roberto as he begins his regime. He is taking over a talented Everton side and some fantastic young players who in my opinion will flourish under Martinez. If he can add the right type of player to that mix then there is no reason why Everton cannot progress as a club. The important thing for me is that Martinez increases competition for places in the squad. Not only do Everton require players to improve the team, they also require players who are at a similar level so that when he has to make changes it is not overly noticeable. A thin squad will always eventually catch up with you as has been proven over the last few years.

There has been some negative press over targets such as Antolin Alcaraz and Aiden McGeady, but if Roberto feels that these players will increase the quality of the squad then who are we to argue with him.

Alcaraz by all accounts is a decent defender and if available on a free transfer would probably make sense in terms of cover and increasing competition for places. The player is a Paraguayan International and has been capped 26 times by his country so has plenty of experience. Roberto has worked with him before so it makes perfect sense if he sees the 30 year old as a squad player.

McGeady on the other hand would be a player that would expect to be challenging for the starting line up. McGeady has good ability and decent pace but his end product is something he needs to work on and I’m sure Martinez will get to work on that side of the players game. Again he is a player with International experience and would provide more competition for Martinez.

We all need to stick together now and back the manager to the hilt whereas new players are concerned. This in my opinion is imperative and will help the transition from David Moyes Everton to Roberto Martinez’ Everton. Next week may see some new arrivals we have been told ! We as always keep our fingers crossed and never count our chickens, we are Everton after all !!

Other players linked have been the likes of Leroy Fer (who the club maintain an interest in) Keisuki Honda, Wilfried Bony, Callum McManaman, James McCarthy and Arouna Kone. All of these would improve the squad and side but none are as far along as the two players mentioned in the previous paragraph.

As for players leaving the club, I would expect that John Heitinga and Marouanne Fellaini will leave the club during this transfer window.

Let me start with John Heitinga. When we signed the Dutchman from Athletico Madrid I was quite pleased, I thought he was a versatile and decent ball playing defender. On the whole I think John has been a good buy for Everton. He has given us decent service over the last 4 years but in my opinion now is the right time for the both the club and player to part company. Heitinga is in my opinion the type of defender who needs to be playing every week and then he a quality player. Heitinga’s problem has been that Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin have been excellent and he has found it difficult to displace them in the side. Heitinga is also a big earner at the club and obviously getting him off the wage bill would create more money for Martinez. When he leaves I will wish him well.

Marouanne Fellaini on the other hand is a different proposition. I am fed up with the constant speculation that surrounds Fellaini and his desire to move onto ‘bigger’ things and whilst I accept that this is not entirely his fault he certainly has not done a good job at cooling the speculation. His father is a big problem here as his constant comments to the press about his son wanting to leave Everton are getting on my moobs now !! I think that Everton have been good for Marouanne and to be honest 5 years from a foreign player is a decent return. Another problem I have with him is that I don’t think he’s progressed over the last 18 months. On occasions he has been fantastic but on other occasions he’s been poor in my opinion. I have said it many times before that I think his best position is central midfield and interestingly the player has also stated that he feels this is his best position. The one thing I hope is that if he is to leave then I hope it is soon so Roberto can re-invest the money straight back into the side with some quality replacements. However, at the moment Everton have not received a single bid for the player despite many Twitter ‘ITKs’ stating otherwise.

Should Fellaini leave then I would like to see a quality Midfielder, a good Centre Forward and a Goalkeeper who can push Tim Howard. Then the rest can be fillers like McGeady who will strengthen the squad and then coupled with some quality youngsters can put Everton in a stronger position than they have been over the last few years.

Anyway that is the end of our little update and we wanted to bring you guys up to speed as to what’s happening. As soon as we have anymore information on possible incomings we will update via Footyscene.com . For now though stay calm and back our new manager in his quest to become ‘The Best Little Spaniard We Know’ !!

Presuming Honda doesn't want to take a pay cut we'd have to pay him at least £60k a week to match what he's earning in Russia, due to our income tax structure being different to the Russian one. That's around £3m a year.

So if we have £10m to fund the purchase and wages of new players, then it's enough for Honda and ONE free transfer along the lines of Alcaraz, OR Honda and a loan with no fee and a max of £40k p/week wages.

£10m doesn't get you many players if you have to pay their wages from it too.

I thought he was only on 30k a week in russia
