Could someone update me if this is paper talk or a ITK regarding Kone, McGready and Alcaraz?

have not been on this thread for a week or so and there are a lot of pages lol

Cheerssssssssss

someone has posted about LCAB claiming that Kone, Alcaraz and McGeady are set to be unveiled next week.

As a result, some fans are in uproar, as these kind of players they claim will not make us the new Barcelona.

Pretty much sums it up for me.

£10M isn't what it used to be. And whilst I'm not exactly enthralled with the names being touted, 3 players that would provide coverage in certain areas, as well as adding squad depth for £10M is good business.

Exactly, which is even more reason to use it wisely.

We simply cannot afford to waste £10m on 3 bog standard players.

Did you think Jagielka, Baines and Gibson were bog standard players, or did you know in advance they'd be great acquisitions?

Moyes for Mirallas (24), Gibson(23), Ovidedo(21) and Naismith(26) for that amount.

All could be sold for a substantial profit.

These players are neither as good nor have anywhere near the resale value.

If indeed LCAB's information is proved correct.

Alcaraz. Don't see the problem, free, and with Johnny most likely departing, instant replacement.

Kone. Wouldn't mind this at about £2.5-£3.5m, but the reported fee of between £5m-£6.5m is a bit too steep for a player of his age imo.

McGeady. Nah, your alright.

Exactly. The increase in tv revenue (because, unlike Everton other clubs actually spend it on players) will see asking prices inflate dramatically.

£10m and circa £100k p/w for those three is a good deal IMO. We are in desperate need of numbers and Martinez has said he likes to rotate his squad, which is one thing 90% of Evertonians bemoaned Moyes for not doing. I suspect having a bigger squad will enable us to give the cups a bit of a better shot as our players ain't be so knackered all of the time.

These players strike me as good enough for the first team but not so big that they'll get unhappy if they're not paying week in week out. Exactly what you need from squad players.

I'd far rather spend £10m and the saving on wages on one player who might make a real difference to the first eleven than bring in a couple who add depth but not strength. The squad, as small as it was, was not deployed as well as it might have been last season (especially the second half) and can pick up the slack.

I knew 22 year old Leighton Baines had potential to improve.
I knew 24 year old Phil Jagielka had potential to improve.
I knew 24 year old Darron Gibson had potential to improve.

I know 29 year old Arouna Kone is an OK striker.
I know 27 year old Aiden McGeady is an OK winger.
I know 30 year old Antonlin Alcaraz is an OK defender.

Alcaraz isn't costing a fee, Kone seems a sound enough investment and McGeady can do one. Maybe as a club we should stop worrying about resale value as much. It's also not definite these are our only signings. It's about what these signings can do for the results on the pitch.

Kone is an improvement on Anichebe, Vellios and McAleny, so he is effectively adding strength.
Alcaraz allows Heitinga to leave and has PL experience which Duffy has very little off and Stones has none off, adding strength.
If RM can get the best out of McGeady then he's a better option than Naismith and Gueye off the bench, adding strength.

Nobody on here can blame anyone for worrying when we can't attract decent players anymore and Swansea, Cardiff, are building their team. You can't blame us for worrying. 2 or 3 seasons time think how much more teams would've strengthened. Mod table mediocrity coming back.

Kone is crap. Not good enough for Everton. Should've pushed the boat out a little and got Bony.

Every year there's meltdown on here when teams like Fulham, west brom and Swansea overpay for players

Every year we finish above these teams

So you knew the Moyes signings would have potential because they were 4/5 years younger than the Martinez signings and it was nothing on to do with their ability? They didn't also have the potential to just not progress or remain "ok"?
