The summer 2013 Everton transfer rumourZ thread

Liverpool have just signed a 32 year old Kolo Toure on a free today.... not sure what his wages are but pretty sure they won't be small. Go and read Rawk, Everybody on there says this will be a good signing, bringing in experience as cover etc etc etc.... not one post saying he's too old, his wages should be used on somebody younger . We get Alcaraz on a free who is younger, arguably better and for probably less wages...... yet people are in meltdown. That's the difference between getting behind your team, no matter how deluded it seems and how meltish they are, and the bunch of fekin doom mongers we have on here.

That's one thing I would never have envisaged typing on here...ever.

To be fair it's not really the Alcaraz signing people are kicking off about

How much have Liverpool spent before this free today vs Everton?

I say this every week, but I wish we'd signed Andy Carrol.

He'll have a cracking season now as well, just to rub it in

Like last season where he missed a third of the season through injury and managed less than a goal every three games.

Don't see the point in being upset about Everton not signing a player they could never afford, think i'd cry if we spent £15 million on Andy Carroll.

The one I was gutted about and we really could of done with was Demba Ba.

But in reality not many.

Hmm yeah I knew there was someone we'd missed out on. There was talk on here that Ba was actually on the verge of signing for us but we were worried about paying extortionate wages for someone with dodgy knee's (not that I can remember him being out with a knee injury since then like!)

The difference is they've also spent £20m+ on 3 players under 26, and they're not paying anything for Toure anyway.

It was more a statement to show how bad some of our fans are reacting to what's going on to be honest. Most managers when they move club like to bring 1 or 2 players that they know and trust along with them. He obviously trusts the players he's bringing in and if..as some are saying on here ,,,,, his transfer and wage budget is as low as people think...then I couldn't see him wasting it on people he had doubts about. Not a ball has been kicked yet, he's been in the job for 2 days ..yet people are ready to sack him and ridicule the signings he hasn't even made yet.... some people will never be happy.

Which young player would you like instead?

Martinez has spent a year working with Kone. He rates him and knows how to use him. There's a good chance he'll make a positive impact on the team. Every bit of evidence implies that the run of form that was an anomaly for Jelevic was his first few months at the club. Aside from Rangers his goal ratio is average, and, despite there being no doubt he works hard, he offers hardly anything aside from goals. Kone and Jelevic have very similar scoring records. The difference being that Kone's a more rounded player and his record is in better leagues.

£5-6m for a 29 y/o isn't cheap, but that price for a 10-15 goal a season striker is decent. If he averages 1/3 (his Wigan ratio) for the next two seasons he'll have been a good signing.

Hope you're right, I was similarly sceptical and very wrong about Gibson, the difference being his youth & reputation meant even if it didn't work, we'd see the majority of the money back. The financial crisis across Europe & the more stretched method of payments when buying would surely mean that a player of equivalent quality (and possibly younger with resale potential) should be available cheaper than our outlay here.

I may be doing him a massive disservice, but it just smacks of a lazy/comfortable buy that is at odds with his global market comments during the press conference.

Put it this way, if you were charged as a scout with scouring Europe for a centre forward in the £6m bracket and came back with Kone at the top of the list, I wouldn't think you'd done your job.
