Love the way people fire off comments like that. Top class left backs don't grow on trees you know.

The way i would take it is, a left back is one of the less influential positions on the field, as a whole.

As for the question originally, for that money, we could build for the future - in in all realism

a) wouldnt get 26m for baines
b) bank would claim a fair chunk

I think our best option would be to get some one like city involved who have players who could be included in the deal. I would like to see any one of Micah Richards Adam Johnson or James Milner stuck in a deal, if not two of them with no fee...Richards and either Johnson or Milner would be a result !!

No it is not don't be ridiculous, fullbacks are integral to a team defence and attack.

I fume at people who don't think full backs are important, they are extremely important and having very good full backs can be the difference between being good and being a great team.

I didnt say that arent important and the way that Moyes wants his team to play, they are important - ut what I am saing is that as an influence on the match, would baines being out of the team effect it as much as say Felli, Jelavic or Heitinga (last season). As much is Baines is a top top left back, and probably better at his position than any of the above players in relation to their peers, their influence on te team is greater , IMO

Just been looking over the pages of the press.
- Many mentions about our move for Richardson, suggesting Sunderland will accept a minimal bid
- Manchester United are offering £12 million for Baines according to 6 newspaper websites
- Also we are being linked with Aly Cissokho (see below)

United chief executive David Gill has opened discussions with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright over signing the England defender and is expected to wrap up a £12million deal within the next few weeks.

Moyes will move quickly to replace Baines by tabling an offer for France international Cissokho, who is available for around £6m and wants a move to the Premier League.

Newcastle, however, are also keen, with Alan Pardew planning to shuffle his defensive pack by ditching contract rebel Danny Simpson, moving Davide Santon to right-back and slotting Cissokho in at left-back.

The same Aly Cissokho AC Milan went in for but cancelled because of a degenerate nerve condition.

On Kranjcar:

"I'm a realist. In Russia or Ukraine you can play good football and earn a lot of money.

"Whether you agree with me or not, it's important how much you earn in your career."

(FROM SKY SPORTS, CAN'T POST LINK DUE TO POST COUNT)

No chance of us signing him then and why would we want to?

See this is what i don't get, why are United looking at a 27 year old to replace their 31 year old left back ? They should be looking at people Cissokho's age, especially if they're going to pay £15m odd.

BTW, there's absolutely no chance we'll get Cissokho, he'll be £8m+.

We'll sell him for next to nothing get some deadwood off them to sweeten the deal & use the money on some journeyman no one ever heard of. Bank will get the rest. Embarrassing way to run a club when you have to sell a top player every window and your board members are loaded. Players as good as Baines don't grow on trees and we need to hang onto them, not give em away.

This Jay Rodriguez thing seems to be everywhere....

Not sure how I feel on this.

Everton signing a second striker seems kind of bizzare to me..... Not like we're gonna play a 4-4-2 right??

Unless he plays in the hole, behind Jelavic. Which wouldn't be too bad. but I don't know but about the player or his abilities, just throwing ideas out there.

The difference between 'second striker' and 'striker' is minimal really, we need back up for Jelavic anyway.
