THE SUMMER OF 12: EVERTON PLAYER TRANSFER RUMOUR THREAD. IN AND OUT.

Sadly the same thing that happened to Huddlestone, Bentley, Palacios, Naughton, Pavulychenko and almost Pienaar, i think we should raid a couple of those guys to be fair.

Good point this. Contrast meltface's record of buying in expensive and largely already-proven players who he milks until they run out of road, with Moyes's record of finding rough diamonds that he cuts and polishes. Huddlestone and Bently are probably past their sell by date now but there are others there that still have bags of potential in the right hands and with the right emotional support (I mean here the dressing room atmosphere which is a selling-point that is often undervalued but highly appreciated by players that come).

Edit: really hope he goes to the RS

Would you sell Baines for £26m if it meant signing a replacement, Donovan, Pienaar +?

I am wonderin if Evertonians would be up for this scenario.

Huddlestone is a good player, fallen out of favour for no real reason. It's not centre mids we need though.

I'd go for a double swoop for Naughton and Kranjcar from them.

26 mil i think is an unrealistic price for baines 20 mil i think we could get, but alot better than talk**** saying united are placing a bid of 12 mil for him.

If Henderson was £20 million and Downing was £14 milion than Baines must be worth £40 million.

And if Carroll was £35 million and Torres was £50 million than Jelavic is worth £100 million so we owe Rangers £95 million.

Don't think i like this "if player x is worth y than player y is worth x" type financing some people seem intent on doing, we're gonna have to sell most of the squad to pay for Jelavic.

Or maybe we can sell Baines for a sensible realistic figure. Which we will, if we sell him.

Meaning those who fume because we didn't sell him for £40 million have bought it all on themselves.

No one would pay £26m for Baines. Man United will seek to get him on the cheap around £10m to £15m, and that's why Moyes should not sell. But if Taggart were to come back in two season with that kind of money, then I think he should.

We should be able to fork out at least £4m for Pienaar. We're playing in the richest league in the world. If we can't put that kind of money forward without selling our players, then something's seriously wrong.

Sadly, there is something seriously wrong!

My only concern is that Pienaar without Baines would somehow equal a Pienaar that we won't recognize. It's a risk, but it will need to happen sometime. We know definitively that both together are better than the parts individually.

That being said, I'm curious about Bidwell and Garbutt as replacements more than buying a name as a replacement. I wonder if Distin gets time there next year while we bring Bidwell and or Garbutt up and hopefully one of them proves ready for the big time next year or the year after.

But 20m+ would let us get Pienaar AND Donovan and give us some $ for other gaps or the bank. It will make a lot of sense.
