Yeah, about 14 years ago. Didn't do Kili, but did the Serengetti (amazing - esp the Ngora Ngora crater) and Zanzibar, which was cool too.

That was the third option - is the safari season specific? Because I'd be going in August if I do go, and wouldn't want to pay lots to see very little.

Not sure on seasons tbh. I was there middle to end of September I believe and we saw plenty of wildlife. We were on an organised tour (called Phoenix Expeditions iirc, don't think they exist anymore), and then you were driven around the park by locals/workers, so they would know where to go to find the good stuff. I do recall one time we were driving around, hadn't seen something for a while, then got a call over the radio so all bolted across the Park to join another group who had come across a group of Lions just chillin by the side of the track. We also camped there, and one night we could hear two Lions, one either side of the camp roaring back and forth throughout the night. Drove off the next morning and they were only about 50m away! :) Google will prob know more.

Going to Stuttgart for a few days before Xmas with the girlfriend.

Anyone been to their ground? They're playing Wolfsburg while I'm there, toying with going but not sure freezing my tits off is worth it for someone other than Everton!

Do it. German football is brilliant, and will 100% make you hate English football.

Cheap tickets, terracing and beer at your "seat", worth it.

Everton aside, I've been to see Werder Bremen about 5 times, Hertha BSC (one of best experiences I've done), and I went to Unterhaching this year which was brilliant too (they brought round free beer when they scored). Bird didn't really enjoy it, but by the time the game was done, she was truly hammered so it was fine.

The grounds nothing special mate. Standard of football from Stuttgart won't be much to write home about either.

Agree with @barneygumble though, German football's no novelty to me anymore but I'd recommend anyone to go to one match at least, it's better than England in every way, in my opinion. Just saying that Stuttgart probably won't be the best of adverts, be a bit like telling a German to come and see the wonders of the Premier League by going to an Aston Villa match.

Just booked flights and hotel for Mrs. cT's Xmas. She's a big fan of The Bridge and Borgen and I'm a big fan of Mikkeller beer, so ideal for both of us.:p
Not going until the Easter school holidays, but really looking forward to it.

Ditto here for the dids and did not, closer to 20 years ago for me. Really enjoyed Zanzibar. Stone Town is definitely worth a visit. The roads on Z at the time were very poor (hopefully now improved) and the locals preferred to use the beach for getting around in their vehicles when the tide was out! As you say, the crater was astonishing. The whole place didn't have the safari crowds that Kenya did, but that was then and I don't know about now. The roads into the Serengeti and Lake Manyara (sp?) were very poor so if not improved then expect to be bounced around big time. Overall a brilliant place to visit for the natural beauty and wildlife.

@The Esk @butters re China what's your experience been like with all the pollution/smog etc? Just reading about the situation in Beijing is putting me off a bit...
Beijing was smoggy, yeah. I didn't even realise the plane was about to land cos I thought we were still dead high, but then it touched down. You can feel it in the air, smell it. It's not very nice. But still, great city.

You know what makes me laugh, when you see Chinese tourists in town with them pollution masks on! Err lads/ladies I've seen pictures of Beijing you can't see your hand in front of your face, I don't think Rodney street is comparable, take the frogging masks off

It's pretty bad all year round to be honest, don't go in the summer when the air quality is at its poorest. March/April is the best, October next best, winter can get very poor especially if a high pressure system sits over the area.
