Anyone ever been to Iceland? Eying it up for December, January or February. Not sure what to expect!
Went there 8 years ago as their economy tanked
Went in October and flight was ewrouted from Reykjavik to Akureri in the North
Snow, wind, ice very very cold
Very slippy underfoot
I always leave the bedroom window open at night and Mrs Prof took exception as " Its snowing in the bedroom"
I loved it, my wife was frozen. Bring lots of thermals and top notch fleeces and warm clothes and waterproof heavy ciat
Brilliant place beautiful

Is Reykjavik the best place to go in Iceland for the Northern Lights? Looking at taking the wife to see the Northern Lights but not sure where is best to go.

I saw them in Tromso, northern Norway. Nearby Alta is supposed to be a good spot for the lights, as is Svalbard. Northern Iceland is also meant to be a good chance of a decent display. Always hit and miss, though - depends on the weather and atmospheric conditions.

Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland are all good places to see the Aurora, especially during the winter months. People often forget Scotland, too: Caithness is an absolutely beautiful part of the UK (as long as you swerve the bigger towns like Thurso which, no offense considering your name, make Widnes look like Venice) and a good spot to catch the lights.

No joke...

Mate was flying from SG to Manila...

I booked his hotel for him and made sure the 1st night was a 2 bedroom suite...

So, i popped down to Burgos street 4am and stayed a couple of hours...he landed 7am and into makati 8am ish.

He called me in the room from the lobby so i turned everything down and made his way upstairs...he heard VERY LOUD music when the lift doors opened and as he searched for the room he realised that it was coming from our room.

He rang the bell and was greeted by a naked girl...shocked, he recoiled back until she asked if he was MR X (for the benefits of this post)...he walked in to see 4 naked girls devouring an entire pig (less the head and tail) down to the bones with 3 more drinking out of a vodka bottle and dancing.

A big grin appeared when he saw me...

After checking out of the hotel (and into a finer establishment) he checked his pockets and realised that when he was in the shower one of them had nicked his cash.

Money well spent i'd say...

@Nil Satis Niasse Optimum welcome to the jungle.
