As Esk said, Barcelona. Although this morning I woke not knowing what time it was because the skies were darkened with one hell of a thunderstorm, in general there'll still be lots of sunny days between now and new year here. Completely possible to get a few days in Dec where you're enjoying a beer outside in a tshirt. Plenty to see and do too!

We (my wife and two teenagers) had 4 days between Christmas and New Year last year in Barcelona. We were lucky with the weather as it was low 70's during the day. Great city for a short break - plenty of culture - Gaudi, Basilica de la Sagrada Familia, Picasso museum, Fundacio Juan Miro, and the wonderful Mercat de Le Boqueira.

If you can fit in a visit to Camp Nou even better.

They stayed at the airport for 14 hours and then the airline made them book accommodation without help?

I was on a 26 hour delay on Thomas Cook a couple of years ago. It started off five hours then kept on getting longer and longer. My mate who I was flying with was having bets on which disgruntled Englander would flip on the Thomas Cook lad first.

They paid for our accommodation though.

Was in Shanghai a couple of years back...got to the airport and check in had a huge queue and the flight was delayed (queue not moving).

After a while we were directed to walk to the carriers main desk in the airport. There were so many people there it was insane...

Anyway, a bloke stood on the desk and shouted in chinese...then the Chinese passengers went crazy and a handful stormed the desk.

Security intervened and i heard people shouting in English that this was the 3rd day of cancellations. They blamed the weather but all but one other airline was flying.

An hour later i saw someone handing out meal boxes (looked awful) and then another sneaking around handing out tickets...so i told him a sob story and he gave me one and directed me to another airline.

Some German chick offered me €600 to give her the ticket...i declined and she got on the flight somehow anyway.

Flew out on the other airline.

Be careful of Cebu Pacific airlines.

When in Kuala Lumpur everyone flies Air Asia. They even have their own terminal and really cheap flights.

I was in a queue to check-in and i kept asking the staff about the time as it was close to 45mins before departure.

When i got to the desk they refused me as it was past cut off for check-in...despite me saying that i had kept asking about it.

I was directed elsewhere which ended up being a sales office to purchase a new ticket...i refused and said i had a valid ticket so they sent me to another check-in desk.

The girl there said i was given the wrong check-in desk and pointed at another one and said;

"Join that queue with the rest of the white people".

I then went nuclear at her and back to the sales desk to make a formal complaint....they then called a manager over who refused my complaint and said he wouldnt let me fly as i was drunk (wtf)...

Then i changed terminal and paid for Singapore airlines...

A mate got me Tony Fernandes' email and he made excuses then passed it onto someone else and they did the same...

I hope QPR get relegated the rascists.

Thanks. Been there 3 times before, so done most of those things at least once. Still, can't go to somewhere like Barca too many times...

Maybe they are just Tom Hanks fans.... :p

Agree with everything bar the Camp Nou: up there with THE most tepid football experiences out there. I've even seen an el Classico there and it was still gash. If you want a proper football fix in Barcelona, I'd say Espanyol is a better bet. Even better, dive down a couple of divisions and get a game in at a smaller club such as Sant Andreu, Hospitalet or CD Europa. All great.

San Sebastian & Bilbao ? Although likely to be wet at that time of the year......

Xi'an is amazing, truly, and China's best food can be found in Chengdu - both great choices.
Thank you, Sir. I've been desperate to visit Chengdu for ages, and Xi'an sounds brilliant too. Bring on the Shezuan food. ;) Been to Beijing twice and Shanghai once, now I want to sample some deep Chinese culture and cuisine.

Three weeks off work, need to use up some holiday by end of March and have bought my flights to and from Bangkok, just need the inbetween ones.

Itinerary would be:
Fly to Bangkok direct
Spend 1.5 days there
Fly direct to Xi'an
5 days there
Fly direct to Chengdu
6 days there
Fly direct to Manila
6 days there
Fly back to Bangkok
1.5 days there
Fly home

6 flights, but all direct so that doesn't bother me at all. 900 for the flights, all in.
