Its is worrying that Moyes and Pearce didn't trust him or rate him, where we do. I mean we have all seen how raw he is and the mistakes he making at the top level such as too slow on the ball, loses the ball when he could have done a simple pass, sometimes rushes his decision or takes too long, but this could be down to needing experience at this level and giving him a run of games. Lets hope Martinez wants to take the challenge on, or if he believes he need more games at championship but with a manager who will bring the best out of him. Coleman came back in good condition from working under Holloway.

I see what you're saying and granted, he's not the next coming of Christ, but Pearce and Moyes have a lot of detractors when it comes to developing players in the 18-21 range.

Oh I agree

I just feel bad for Barkley that so many people seem to recognise his skill and ability except for the people who've been in charge of actually getting him a game

The people who rate him are respected within the sport as well. It's just really unlucky for him that Pearce and Moyes happened to be to the two men he needed to rely on

I really hope Martinez gives him a chance this upcoming season

Apologies, you made a good point, but it was hard to discern your own opinion as it could have gone either way :D

I guess with Moyes, the pressure was there to reach the highest league position possible and he has mentioned that he wanted "older more experienced heads" in the season run-in the other year.

As for Pearce, well, he's just a shambles really and the total indecisiveness surrounding the many players moving between U21 and Senior squads isn't helpful. Can't recall Germany or Spain having these problems.

What gets me about Moyes is that Barkley had that cracking game against Arsenal. If Moyes was worried about pressure from people, he could have always pointed to that and stuck with Barkley for the rest of the season

The fact he didn't start against Sunderland was nothing short of a shambles IMO

Totally agree. We were never going to go higher in league. He even picked Naismith in that role last game of season when we had nothing to play for.

I'm one of Barkley's biggest fans and drove back to the North-West to watch the U19 qualifiers at Preston and Rochdale, as well as watching the U19 game at Leyton Orient. It is easy to see how talented he is, he's head and shoulders above the rest of the squad. However, he had a terrible game at Rochdale and was taken off at half-time, just one of those days when everything went wrong. Was also at Barnet to watch v Arsenal when everything went right and him and Baxter ran them ragged.

Problem is that Moyes and Pearce are judged by results and don't trust him, whereas the remit of the England U19 and U21 coaches should be to develop him - and others - into a top class player for the full England team.

I'm still hopeful that he will fulfill his potential but we make it very difficult for ourselves in England.

The fact that Pearce didn't rate him doesn't worry me at all

Moyes cant win with regards Barkley.

If he flops badly he will accused of ruining him and if he shines he will be accused of holding him back.

Its a lose, lose.

Good, it's the least he deserves for neglecting this important aspect of our club (the developing of young players).
