I am worried that being able to attract players will be a much bigger concern than money this summer.
Let us be honest. While Dyche did well most of the time as Burnley manager, his players did not. Not many improved. Not many got transferred to a better team. Hardly any players got a higher market value while being there.
Being hard to beat and grinding out results with a collective without improving individual players does not make signing for Everton attractive.
Think of players like Jack Cork and Josh Brownhill. Regulars on the Burnley midfield for years. I watch a lot of Premier League football, but I could not tell you what they are good at. What types of players they are. And it would be concerning if Everton were after them.
But things change. Since Kompany came in, Burnley have been a team that plays good football, has a lot of possession and it is no longer all about long balls. I know it is "only" Championship, but I have to say I am surprised when Brownhill is arguably the best player in the league. That he has seven goals and eight assists. Where the hell did that come from?
There are reasons for players such as Iwobi and Onana looking much better the first half of the season than after Dyche came in. If they push for an exit now, I will totally understand them. They will never shine brightly for Everton as long as Dyche is a manager. They would never have signed for Everton in the first place if Dyche was manager.
I do not mind a McTominay type of signing, but signing for Everton show an alarming lack of ambition from him. His ceiling playing under Dyche is to be a 6 out of 10 midfielder. Tom Davies can be 6 out of 10 midfielder playing for Dyche. When we play as we do, the skills and the name at the back of the shirt do not really matter.
