The walking / hiking thread

No. Is that the London Wall near Barbican?

Partially - its to walk along the circuit of what would have been the old Roman city walls:

Personally I think its a better walk the reverse of how they've set it up there, so starting at Blackfriars and ending up by the Tower.

While we were up there we drove to Craster. About 50yds or so from the harbour a sea fret was descending and as we got to the harbour edge I realised we were in a sort of amphitheatre. Behind us into the rocks were people seated tucking into the renowned kippers, and you couldn't help but inhale the smoke from the fish curers.
Bottom line is we're booked for a week in June just up the road in Dunstan. Can't wait.
Ross sands is a great beach to visit about 20 mins north from there. Can see the seals basking on the beach.
Perfect time to go to the farne islands also. Drop me a PM closer to the time if you want some advice on places to visit. If I’ve not been banned

I’ve got a pair of Scarpa Chamoz. Had them for years now and they’re so good.

Would thoroughly recommend them.

If you’re planning for high altitude then I would suggest Scarpa Vega’s.

Thanks for that. I wouldn't be doing any high altitude walking in the near future, but I wouldn't rule it out. Basically I want to do some winter walking on UK mountains. I'll be doing a winter skills course in Scotland. I was advised to go B2 as they'd give a few more options in future.

I was recommended Scarpa ribelle, but the reviews are mixed. Know much about these?

Soz mate - I've never seen that boot before. B2 is deffo they type of boot you need for winter mountaineering in the UK. However you need one boot - to cover your walk-ins and walk-outs as well as your climbing. So the boot needs to be light, strong, waterproof, warm, flexible and can support a 12 point c1 or c2 crampon without slippage.

I do recommend that Scarpa Chamoz HD boots with Grivel Air tech 12 crampons - but thats just my opinion.

Do you find the Chamoz are warm enough? I'm torn between those and Scarpa Triolet. Apparently both boots are similar but the Triolet are slightly warmer. I'll be in the Cairngorms, which can be pretty Arctic by all accounts.

Warm enough for my sensitive tootsies. I’ve used em for winter climbing in the Torridons, Cairngorms and in the Alps.

Triloet are excellent also. Can’t go wrong with either choice.
