The walking / hiking thread

Looking to do some winter hill walks in Snowdonia in the next few weeks. Would still like to do some of the higher mountains /hills if possible. Could anyone recommend a route which can be done without full on winter gear? I was thinking Moel Siabod, but I've never been up there so not sure what to expect.

Moel Siabod is a great walk and if the weather is good you get the most amazing view - the entire snowdonia range in panorama from left to right.

Used to wild camp on Moel Siabod by the old quarry.

All you need are waterproofs, Wooly hat, gloves - waterproof boots and you’ll be just fine

We did Drum and then onto Foel Fras in the snow last year, no crampons required, but as Mutzo says, good boots, waterproofs, hats and gloves are a must.

Is it a necessity to take a bivvy/emergency shelter when walking in the hills and mountains?
Were you going? If somewere isolated yes but i would steer clear of them unless you are experienced. Not necessarily if your going to Snowdon early in the day, but a remote place its not a bad idea

I take a survival bag and foil blanket - basically a big yellow plastic bag but it packs small so it just stays at the bottom of the rucksack. Things would have to be truly bad if you were needing to climb into that on a hike, like you'd be on the news, but it doesn't hurt to have I suppose.

We gave a foil blanket to a woman out walking in the snow with her baby just last month on Chinley Churn in Derbyshire. Not far at all from the village but up the hill and the road was impassable to a normal car. Would have been madness to try and descend it with a baby in a front papoose.
