The walking / hiking thread

Apparently the highest death toll on Snowdon is up the Llanberis path in winter. Looks innocuous enough and is probably the easiest route up, but if you slip there's areas where you won't stop.

Helvellyn is the same in Winter too.

People ignore the conditions and equipment requirements notices in all the car parks and still go up. Even with the right gear, it can get hairy very quickly and even worse if you`re up there with the wrong gear and aren`t used to the extremes.

Spoke to this lass last week, up from Devon on holiday, saying she was going up Helvellyn that day. It was 3pm and she didn't even have a torch. Thankfully coerced her out of doing it to save the job of the air ambulance crew. Some absolute flutes about.

Spent this last week fulfilling an ambition to see what all the fuss is about regarding the Northumberland Heritage Coastline.
All I can say is the hype is well deserved. Those beaches and shores are mind blowing. Walked on the beach from Seahouses up to Bamburgh and of course the castle itself. Wind blowing, sunshine as well couldn't ask for more. I've forgotten about the West Ham game but now I'm back home the Watford nightmare awaits.

It was very wet and muddy and I just stepped slightly off the path for a second and ended up balls-deep in a well disguised pot hole! It took a few minutes to pull myself out of the mud, as I couldn’t feel the bottom of the hole, much to the amusement of my other half!

going staying at a 'Big House' only a couple of miles from there in Feb, I'll be sure to stay on the path

We've been doing the London Loop walk around London over the past year and did the first section (we started southwest and have been heading clockwise) the other weekend. Quite probably the worst walk imaginable lol Pretty much pan flat and you spend a good 60% of it I reckon walking next to recycling facilities and other industrial stuff (the kind of shitty industrial stuff they put in the arse end of nowhere).

Hopefully if Covid doesn't stuff things up, we'll get to go up a favourite old haunt in 10 days. Have you ever been @Bohemian Toffee ?

Magical place. Lindisfarne is nice this time of year without so many tourists. The drive over the causeway is incredible.

Ještěd is about 2 and a half hours from where I live and I visited last year in the summer. It's that rare combination of beautiful and bizarre in almost equal measure.

Liberec is one of my favourite cities, COVID wise I think you'll be fine but there are some worrying developments like school trips getting shut down. I think we're heading to a partial lockdown of unvaccinated citizens.

While we were up there we drove to Craster. About 50yds or so from the harbour a sea fret was descending and as we got to the harbour edge I realised we were in a sort of amphitheatre. Behind us into the rocks were people seated tucking into the renowned kippers, and you couldn't help but inhale the smoke from the fish curers.
Bottom line is we're booked for a week in June just up the road in Dunstan. Can't wait.

Liberec is the second home and is lovely. I do like towns with hills either side though. It always seems slightly more collegiate than other places in CZ, although that is compared to Pardobice and Jihlava though so is perhaps not a fair comparison.

Got some FFP2 masks so fingers crossed

Pardubice is a really great night out though, just some excellent bars and a very good mix of stamgast and students.

Yeah, the FFP2 masks are in no way a dodgy insider contract thing. All certainly proper and above board.

Its nowhere near the length of the Loop, but have you done the London Wall walk? An ideal way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
