The walking / hiking thread

The flare is the boot cut yeah

Sound when I’ve got a pair of boots on in winter (meindl bhutans fellow gear fans) but when I want to move a bit quicker with some trail shoes on they do my nut in

Have a look at some trail running trousers, rather than the walking ones ?

INOV8 do some decent ones and they`re super light, as they`re made for storing in a running vest.

They don`t tend to be as waterproof as the walking ones, but they still do the job to a point.

If you're winter hiking you'd prob take a proper set of waterproof overtrousers in your bag? So you can wear a lighter set of kecks in general.

If you're more fair weather then some softshell kecks which can stand a shower are prob better - but they'll be bad in heavy weather.

Took a few days away earlier this week to stay in a holiday let near Ilkley.
The tracks and trails following the River Wharfe were brilliant. Whether back towards Skipton or the other way to Otley it was magnificent.
Only there because given international travel a miss for obvious reasons. A bit late to the party, but this country sure does have some stunning locations.

You might already use it but ViewRanger is a great app for finding walks and it’s got a live gps for navigating

Ran a few off road races around there, beautiful part of the UK.

Did you find it expensive to stay there, as I’ve found that the pubs / hotels charge North Yorkshire prices, same with eating out.

Not expensive in my opinion. We took a holiday cottage self catering for just over £200 three nights. Spoilt for choice on different standards of pub and restaurants.

I normally stay a bit further up from the Skipton area, Burnsall, Grassington, around there, so it’s more the Harrogate end, which is maybe why it’s a bit steeper price wise.

The cheapest we’ve stayed in was an Airbnb cottage, in Hebden ( the Yorkshire one ) at the back of Grassington Moor.

The pubs and hotels tend to be quite steep, as they’ve got a captive market.

After the lockdowns there's a general acceptance that things like pub meals have gone up in price. But in the village pubs cooking their food from scratch its worth paying the extra. As a for instance I would have kicked up paying £12 for gammon and chips but believe me when it appeared on the plate all misgivings disappeared. The two gammon pieces were actually steaks. Two meals and four pints £40.

You want a pair of these - Adidas Terrex.

I’d always walked in conventional walking boots ( Zamberlan ) until my mate put me onto these.

Super light, instantly comfy, grippy and the GTX are waterproof.

One of the best bits of kit I’ve ever bought.
The footprints of yours are found in the bushes at Otterspool prom lol

It's testimony to how much we liked the region that we started looking at property prices in a flight of fancy to see if we could afford to move.
Not a chance on earth!!!
Average semi detached houses £450k. And there was me thinking I could sell up and swap like for like.
I could afford a new build in Keighley. Then I did a bit of research about the locality and quickly decided that place wasn't for me.
