The walking / hiking thread

He was not talking about what you use in the bushes at Otterspool prom mate ..... :D

For me the Trough of Bowland plus Yorkshire especially Ingleton waterfall route plus Clapham next to it;)

I was out by the Trough of Bowland a few weeks ago Joey, it really is stunning out there and it`s so close to us too.

That part of North Yorkshire is stunning too, but it`s pricey to stay there - around Grassington, Wenselydale etc

I stayed in Burnsall Yorkshire in a cottage when I was younger in the early 1980s twice - a beautiful area to explore the gateway to the dales - I went all over keen rambler in those days - Gods country......
I lived in Clitheroe as my job took me there for 3 years - crap pay - the happiest days of our lives ....... the countryside was out of this world .......

I`m running in a race next year in Burnsall .

Starts at the Red Lion pub and goes up into the Dales.

I`m staying in a pub called the Craven Arms in a tiny village called Appletreewick.

Just back from a weekend in the west coast of Scotland. Great scenery and beaches at Arisaig. Went up to Mallaig then got on a small ferry to the Knoydart peninsula, where Britain’s most remote pub is located. Only had an hour so called into the pub only to be met by 15 loudmouth, swearing, drunken stag revellers from Carlisle who were trying to play rugby outside. Absolute arseholes who were spoiling it for everyone. I’m glad we weren’t staying any longer.

Putting this in here, the slate quarries are fascinating places, I've walked around loads of them Dinorwic is really nice and a great place to see mountain goat.
Dorothea is a nice one too, some go swimming there.
My great grandad worked in the Oakeley quarries in Blaenau Ffestiniog, so my interest goes back to that maybe.

Two of my mates tried to set up camp outside Trawsfynydd nuclear power station, too much wacky baccy when they’d been fishing, I wouldn’t recommend that.
About 5 miles down the road from there is a holiday village named Brom Aber, great wild camping spot if you go right up to the top of the camp and keep following the road, eventually you come to an old rifle range, great for wild camping up there hidden by the trees. If you know where the Rheinogs are then Bron Aber is basically opposite them on the main road.

Was up in dinorwic last week, love it there.

Working on the Colorado Trail - 489 miles from Denver to Durango. I'm doing segments of it when I can, it will take probably 2-3 years for me to find the time to do it all. So far, over the last year, I've done 4 segments for about 70 miles total. Three have been nice summer hikes with a few backpacking overnights thrown in. The fourth was a great spring snow shoe hike. Doing another segment in a few weeks - 14 miles with sparse tree cover due to forest fire a few years ago, so my son and I will do it as a full moon hike - night of July 23rd, should(?) be fun(?). Then a 32 mile segment in early September, taking it slow will make it a nice 3 day/2 night outing, ending in Breckenridge, CO, where my better half will be waiting to treat me to dinner after a nice hot shower.

That kind of thing looks great but would make me incredibly anxious about getting chopped up/ bummed by an axe-wielding Mountain man or savaged by a bear or whatever local wildlife there is.

Seriously though it must be great to have that kind of expanse of wilderness available. Britain's just too small to walk and walk and not see civilisation.

Last time I went I parked by where the bus can turn around, popular climbing area. I went up to the quarry and took the first incline on the left and over to Elider Fawr, back down to the reservoir and along that service road for a bit before heading back to the quarry, beautiful day.
That’s a great walk, the walk above the reservoir and down the other side is lovely, think it’s called marchlyn loop

Turns out it was a good time to go. Scotland is only slowly emerging from lockdown so it was pretty quiet. We had the peak of Ben Lomond to ourselves for about 5 mins before some Navy lads emerged out of the mist closely followed by 2 idiots who carried their bikes up. Good trip ...View attachment 134910 View attachment 134911
excellent - weather doesn’t look too bad. Doing anymore?

Week off work now. Off to Belfast tomorrow for five days to visit her family. New pair of Adidas terrex shoes and a jacket to replace my old Cross one. Heading straight up the Mournes with two of my lads. Can’t wait.
