The walking / hiking thread

Gutted to find out that a monthly Sale that I used to go to at Mountain Equipment will no longer be happening, I spent £540 in total which was 10% of RRP (that's not 'off' btw), Mountain Equipment, Ron Hill, Bridgedale being the stuff I got at a steal.
I'll get back in there somehow or other, in the meantime I'll probably head to the Rab Factory near Alfreton for some of their bargains instead.

Very nearly got to do the Cuillin mountains recently, but some unfortunate person had vehicle problems on the single track road that goes down there and caused a roadblock so couldn't get down to the starting point. very annoying as the drive to the Isle of Skye is long enough at 9 hours.

Had to settle for the Storr on the Trotternish side of the island instead which wasn't as challenging but still amazingly beautiful. Really amazing place.

Slieve Binnian yesterday. Rained on the drive down but very lucky when we got there. Sunshine on way up and cloud cover on top cleared briefly to reveal reservoir below. Great walk and first time for my youngest lad. Had a bigger route planned for me and older lad but forecast not great for tomorrow. Maybe try Friday morning.

Constant, relentless rain. Just lashing it down. I’ll be happy just going up Cave Hill, Black Mountain and Divis tomorrow at this rate. Grim. Grey. Belfast.

Can anyone recommend some decent hiking kecks? I hate the way they all flare out at the bottom.

I was looking at the Salomon Wayfarer tapered but they’re £90 and I’m a mingebag.

They flare out at the bottom, so you can take them off without having to remove your boots ?

If you want decent gear mate , you`ll have to pay for it.

Buying the cheap stuff is a false economy, as it may keep the rain off, but it won`t " wick " so it`ll trap all the sweat and you`ll end up wet ( and stinky ) anyway.

Have a look on Ebay, as there are some sellers that sell " new without label " gear at cheaper prices.

Plus the expensive stuff will last much much longer if you look after it properly too.

The flare is the boot cut yeah

Sound when I’ve got a pair of boots on in winter (meindl bhutans fellow gear fans) but when I want to move a bit quicker with some trail shoes on they do my nut in
