The walking / hiking thread

Got my missus a set of Hanwags as a present (yeah, who says romance ain't dead) because they do the bunion specific boots. Absolutely loves them, first time she's truly felt comfortable on walks. Good quality gear, but not cheap.
Yes, I think my current Meindls are around 280 Euros list price... Raichle is another brand to look out for - my partner loves her trekking boots.

Decent back pack too

The one I had kinda finished above your head, and ended around your arse, with a hip belt to spread the weight off your shoulders, and a light metal frame. Pockets all over it for stuff, waterproof, obvs, but most stuff in it was wrapped in bags as well. (see the bog post).

Would probably be arrested these days if you let your 16 year old lad chip off, with his mates but no grown ups, with that to keep him alive ffs! No mobiles neither.

*heads for the oldies thread*

I've decided to try and get a few Munroes in before I get too old, starting this July. Ben Lomond. I hesitate to ask, but any advise?
Seriously though. In addition to all the kit you need, ensure that you tell someone what route you’ll be taking and an estimated time of return. Carry a fully charged mobile phone with you ( I recommend it’s loaded with the “what 3 words app”).

For beginners I’d recommend some of the peaks near Loch Lomond or try Cairn gorm

An OS map aint the worst idea neither.

The Rab Factory Shop at Alfreton will be starting their saturday sales again once restrictions are lifted, sometimes scarpa go and some others to flog stuff.

it's called Equip Technologies in summercoates.

& wintercoats ffs before you ask

it does open through the week but they slash the already low prices every so often.

Also a phone back up charger too.

If you’re using it on Strava etc it burns through the battery life.
