Well yeh but expecting a player to say 'I signed for the fat wedge even though the home fans are crap' is just as ludicrous as believing they love the club as soon as they join?
No, he’s come for regular first team football will do.

What matters to me is whether or not we're using the money we have sensibly; spending a lot of money (wages and transfer fees) on players that are at best only going to be at their peak for a year or two doesn't seem like good business. I want the club to be run sustainably and with a view to building the best team possible over more than just a 1-2 season horizon.

But we are doing that as well. Are people on here refusing to acknowledge our young players too? Tosun is what, 26? That looks long term to me. Holgate, DCL, Onyekuru, Pickford, Keane, Lookman, Vlasic? They look long term to me. Meant to be getting the young lad from Charlton too aren't we? I understand your point but it just doesn't hold up when you see that we are in fact doing what you say we aren't.

Seriously bad Geordies our fans. Thinking we're above a player like Walcott. We aren't lads. We are mainly a bit gash.
I think there's still a player in there, at least we'll have a bit of pace when he does play.
I'd have him any day rather than the king of the step-over.

...ahem....

Walcott was born to a black British Jamaican father and a white English mother.[10] He grew up as a Liverpool fan due to his father's support of Liverpool. When Chelsea asked him to be a ball boy, he used the opportunity to meet his Liverpool idols:

"I was playing in a tournament for Swindon when Southampton and Chelsea showed an interest. Chelsea invited me to be a ball-boy for a match against Liverpool and it was fantastic to meet my heroes Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler. I was a Liverpool fan simply because my dad followed them. Unfortunately I wasn't born when the team had their golden era, but I enjoyed watching the likes of Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman when I was growing up. When Liverpool won the Champions League last year,[11] I went mad. I was shouting so loud I think I woke up the entire village where I live!"

Peter Reid was a childhood red. Dave Watson too I think. NEA.

Props to Steve Walsh for unearthing this gem.

Cannot believe people are trying to convince themselves that this is a good signing. We aren’t going to crack the top 6 by signing their cast-offs.
Man Utd have singed Paul Pogba a player they let go for free back for £90m and signed Lukaku and Matic in the summer, players that were deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

De Bruyne was deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea and is now being talked about at City as one of the best in the world.

to be fair de bruyne rom and pogba were all kids when seemed surplus to requirements

and matic was a key member of the title winning side, they just accepted a bid which I think even conte wasn't happy with

But we are as we have a load of younger players who "should" come through and have us sorted for years.

You seem unhappy that we are not spending more money on our players for the future which is not good business either is it as there are no guarantees.
