Crazy idea I know and feel free to reply if you think I am totally off the mark with this; How about we see how he gets on before we moan about him signing?

I mean it is actually a fact that attacking players peak at 25 and they decline rapidly at around 29-30.

There is plenty of research on it. Of course there are exceptions, but they tend to be players who adapt their game, like Ronaldo.

It's so subjective though to each individual - it isn't 'a fact'.

Walcott probably peaked last season in terms of game time and output/goals. But he's 28, he's not had any bad injuries recently and by all accounts his attitude is spot on.

He has shown that his game isn't all about pace. Yes, it's a huge part of it, but he has the quality to adapt when required. In fact, if you look at a lot of the goals he scored last term, his pace has little to do with them - he's just in the right place at the right time with good finishing.

So there's no guarantee at all he'll suddenly turn crap this time next year, or that he'll get slow.

He's 28 Dave. Ffs. Not about to retire is he. He should be at peak performance at that age and for £20m, in this day and age of astronomical fees, it's a 'kin snip.

Y'all talking about a plan. Here's the plan: Buy better players than the ones we've currently got, buy someone who can score and buy someone who can create as well as score who also has pace to burn, something we, of course, do not have. Hell, even I can work that one out.
Older, injury-prone player signed for big money.

Madness, but entirely in keeping with the era of Sam Hammam MkII

I don’t deny that he’s said something about wanting to play for Allarydce, my point is he’s said it because it’s the correct thing to say when a club and manager is offering you a nice contract! He will probably tell us how great the atmosphere is at Goodison as well when we all know it’s like a morgue, again it’s the correct thing to say.
Okie dokie I get you Point
Nice conversation by the way ... good mannered debate ... rare here

Retire at 28, what do you think is the shelf life of a player before they regress mate, should we be thinking of replacing say Coleman at 29.

Walcott may score or assist in every game until the end of the season, go to the World Cup and star, what message does that send out, especially to high quality players stockpiled on the bench of CL clubs.

A new sherif in town?
...and he might offer more solo bit part stuff like he did for Arsenal, not fit in, and pull up injured for the umpteenth time in his career.

20 odd million pounds to find that out is too expensive. There'll be no sell on as was warned about Bolasie. The club dont learn.

Name me 3 players with more pace and better technical skills than Bolassie that would realistically sign for us.
Walcott has both and is getting grief on here
We can’t find a LB when we have none and you want a left winger

Ask the DoF is,nt that what he is paid to do by the club.
If there is an option either now or available in the next 12 months we should be active because I reckon Bollassie will get found out, crowd will turn then he is on his way.

That is an unfair assessment and unrealistic assessment though mate, would you not be satisfied if he posted goals and assists numbers he did at Arsenal, the lad certainly comes with a track record of effectiveness. Im not sure he is particularly injury prone when was the last time he was out with a long term injury must be a good couple of seasons. I dont see the red flags you see.

The fee is ridiculously low in this market, i suppose comparatively we had Chamberlin move to Liverpool for more then double that and was behind Walcott in the pecking order at Arsenal. In a world were Shaun Wirght Phillips cost that 10 years ago, the fee is nominal. Which i like as i reckon they owe us one after getting Arteta for a song.
