It's pathetic from some quarters.

I swear some people would moan if we signed Messi.

In fairness, I think people are right to be concerned. We should be signing younger players with decent resale value. Bolasie and Sigurdsson were both expensive signings and are both at an awkward age were their resale value will be terrible - Walcott will be the same. I know it's not my money, but we seem to be panic buying for the short term with no real plan.

That is an unfair assessment and unrealistic assessment though mate, would you not be satisfied if he posted goals and assists numbers he did at Arsenal, the lad certainly comes with a track record of effectiveness. Im not sure he is particularly injury prone when was the last time he was out with a long term injury must be a good couple of seasons. I dont see the red flags you see.

The fee is ridiculously low in this market, i suppose comparatively we had Chamberlin move to Liverpool for more then double that and was behind Walcott in the pecking order at Arsenal. In a world were Shaun Wirght Phillips cost that 10 years ago, the fee is nominal. Which i like as i reckon they owe us one after getting Arteta for a song.
I'm not saying he has no chance at being a success. I'm saying the policy of signing older players with bad injury records for big money (and it is) is flawed.

This club needs sorting out on that score...and a lot more besides.

His record indicates that he's generally stayed fit over the last couple of seasons mate.

Thought the same myself...

37 games last season, 42 the season before that...

And yet when we do sell on for big fees (Stones and Lukaku) you slate the club. You can't have it both ways Dave.
Because we dont have them here long enough to benefit from them usually.

Ideally we should get 4/5 seasons of any players best and then sell at a time we can do better and also get a good fee.

If he can replicate his goals/assists from the last 2 full seasons for our next two, he'll be a good signing.
I can’t see it mate he’s going to witness football like he’s never seen before with players that have far less ability to what he used to! That’s why I don’t think he will have the same impact here.

Please mate, "ideally" don't exist with Steve bloody where's Wally. So best not mention it.

Just not true.

For two of those seasons he's had bad injuries but still played a reasonable amount of games. Every other season he's played a minimum of 40 games (bar one). £20m is also not a large fee nowadays. This rhetoric that he's a crock is simply not true. He's had injuries but every single player picks up knocks, it's part and parcel of the game. Only twice since 2010 has he missed more than 10 games because of injury. Only once more than 11, and that was a cruciate rupture.

How many sub appearances?

And bear in mind that Arsenal are playing about 55 games per season.

Players in their prime will always cost a premium. This is a fact of top level football - you don't buy them for 'resale value', you buy them to instantly improve your team.

I think a defo addition to squad. The likes of lennon are not good enough. If you have tosun up top with siggy in number 10 and bolaise and walcott either side you have a side and counter attack team. Leicester won the league and still play that way and get results. If we get coleman back to where he was. A top left back and keane can get his finger out and start playing it is a decent side.
