For me its a bad signing simply because:

1. he has been on a massive decline this season.
2.He was a pace merchant - they often decline even more repidly that most players.
3. What the **** is our system and what we are building towards?

The last point is the major thing for me. We Dont seem to buying for a certain style of play or system, it just seems like a bunch of individuals trying to kick a ball.

That's exactly what we're doing because we have no clear direction from the top. We didn't bring Sam in because of his play style or system but because he gets enough results to keep a team up and that's what Moshiri was most concerned about.

We're not really "building a team" for a specific style of play, we're signing players Sam thinks can make enough of an impact to keep him in the job come May. If he survives this season then we might begin to see some sort of strategy but everything is short-term at the moment given the uncertainty around Sam's future in the job.

I never said summer signings. With Walcott we'll have spent around £125m on Bolasie, Schneiderlin, Williams, Sigurdsson and Rooney. They'll all be on massive contracts.

I'm aware that we've also signed young players, my point was that we've used the bulk of the money we've spent since Moshiri joined on older players.

Or we sign a talented youngsters ( Stones, Lukaku for instance) who we nurture for a few seasons , sell them at a profit, and replace them?

The debate goes both ways, if we sign proven players , if we sign talented youngsters both will need replacing eventually.

Yes we make money off the youngsters, but then, to your point , do we go out and buy more youngsters?, so in fact turning us into a feeder club?

A successful club has a balance of youth and experience.

Go back a couple of pages and look at the majority of our summer signings, all under the age of 25.

Add Siggy ,Rooney and now Walcott and you have a blend of talented youngsters with bags of potential and experienced internationals in their prime ( Siggy, Walcott ).
Sorry to point out the obvious mate, but if you sell players at a profit you can afford to replace them. If you're replacing players with no resale value you're having to get money from somewhere else.

But apart from Willians and Rooney, the players you mentioned would all be considered at their peak (26-29).

Bolasie has had a year-long injury. Schneiderlin has been inconsistent. Sigurdsson was 27 when we signed him.

As you point out sell the youngster to be able to buy.

My question was , who do you buy?

More youngsters? So we end up as a feeder club?

Or

Proven 26-30 year olds who may not get your money back on?

Or

As we appear to be attempting to do, do you go for a mixture of the two?
