We need a Left Back desperately but I am not against signing Walcott.

A fresh start is what he needs (hopefully is successful like Limpar).
We don't need more young potential signings as we have Vlasic and Lookman plus Dowell hopefully to try and get consistent at Premier League level. So a 28 year old international with CL experience and a point to prove in his prime years would be a welcome addition.

Lennon is a no brainer for any team in a relegation scrap (we aren't), he has the right attitude, works his arse off and as shown when he first arrived with us (both times) he actually tends to hit a purple patch for 6-8 games after moving clubs.

Lennon has always been a consistent performer and you know when he plays he's going to give you a 6 or 7/10 every game.

But he's 30, running down his contract and has lost that rapid pace he had even when he joined us three years ago.

He's been a solid if unspectacular player for us who has helped us out of some crap situations three times now.

Stoke will love him.

Rooney was/is labelled a past it has been. He's still out best player.

Walcott may be a arsenal fringe injury prone player...but is still better than anyone (bar Rooney) in our squad, won trophies, and played at the highest level.

Again, none of the squad bar Rooney have played at his level.

May even actually stop the side bottling big games.

Errrm by buying a player from a team which is renowned for being able to be bullied out of games and thus bottling them?

as for Rooney, the last Derby there was one Everton player who let the occasion get to him, and that was the lad who everyone said was the answer to our mentality problems in Rooney.

Great let's add him to the list of experienced premier league players at their peak who've come to us and are doing a great job: Schneiderlin, Bolassie, Williams, Rooney, Martina.

Trophy cabinets and goals in big games says otherwise.

And it's 11 players on the pitch.

That's what happens to wingers once they start getting past 27/28 years old. They decline in pace and effectiveness. But don't worry Walcott's nearly 29 so there's plenty of life left in him.

Id take him, but I worry a lot about his injury record. Another sicknote is not what we need, no matter how good he is the 4 games he’s healthy pr season.

Thought the same myself about his injury recoird and looked into it a bit more.

Turns out since December 2014, he has had a total of 3 injuries for 33 days, 12 days and 35 days (total of 16 games missed/not eligible through injury) in the subsequent 3 and a bit years, and not had any injury since Jan 2017.

That's actually not that bad a record over that period of time actually... 42 games in 15/16, 37 in 16/17

Contrary to that IMO, i think on at least 4-5 occasions the lack of a short term approach has cost this club massively, 2-3 times under Moyes as short term approach in a January could have seen us in the CL or win a cup maybe, same under Martinez.

IF Walcott is the type of short term solution to anything though is another matter.
You can get away with the odd short term approach particularly where it can make a big difference in winning something or getting into the Champions League etc but our predominate approach since Walsh came in with regard to the first team has been short term.

Walcott has always been quicker than Lennon though. And he still is quicker now.

And the plus side with Walcott is he is more versatile. He can play off the main striker so if he does lose half-a-yard of pace, he can play there.

If this deal can be done it's a no-brainer. He improves our squad.
