Transfer Rumour Thiago Silva

Nobody is saying players don't get worse with age, look at Rooney, his legs went as soon as he turned 30, still got the talent tho.

Most 35-year-olds have retired, but CR7 is the 1st or 2nd best player on the planet and saying otherwise is actual trolling.
And he isn't the player he was 3 years ago. Both can be true you know...

How many top drawer players do the RS and City have?

Assuming we sign Silva, how many do we have?

Does that do anything to help you understand why I think we need to take a longer term view if we want to compete?
There never is no "long term " its what you are and the season in front of you.

Never turn your nose up at quality for however long they are here ( most are gone in the prem in 2 years)
Carlo wont be around in 3/4 years.
Your reasoning belongs in a different era.

But you already know this.

Then what we are is mid-table and we will be mid-table forever.

The deck is more stacked than it ever had been. If all you can think of is to buy whatever quality the top teams leave for you at any given moment you are essentially waiting to draw a card that doesn't exist.

I don't care if Carlo is around. Pep could take over tomorrow and I still would expect that the absolute earliest we could compete for the CL is 2021/22 and the more likely scenario is 2022/23. There needs to be a long term plan and if Carlo is the man to see it through that is awesome and if he wants to leave because it is moving too slow then that is his prerogative.

You are a very silly man.

I find the idea that we cant compete next season no matter what we do utterly stupid and you should feel bad for thinking it.

Not sure you understand how this works.

You win games with the best players , you win trophy's if you couple them with a World Class manager.

It really is that simple.

We're in 12th. There are 5 teams in the league that no questions asked have a better squad than we do. There are 3 that also might.

The team in fourth has bought two players who are better than anyone we will sign this window and it hasn't even opened yet. The team in 5th prints money. The team in 3rd actually has a long term strategy and it is paying dividends. They look set to lose no one from a squad that has outperformed us. And the top two teams are in the middle of the best 3 year run for any club in decades. That doesn't even mention specifically Spurs and Arsenal who we haven't done better then since 2014 at least.

Yes, I find it a little hard to see us competing next year. But I don't find it too hard for us to compete very soon after that, if we look at the situation that way and run the club like that is the case.

We don't have the best players. We won't have them next year. And we will never sign them in their prime with how the game is currently structured.

You said you see football differently. You do.. You look at at it stats and as a long term business. You said elsewhere havin no fans does not bother you.
But for id say 99 per cent that's what football is about. The experience. Goin to the game or watching it with your mates.
Signing players like silva may not be the best plan long term but if it helps us get to maybe a cup final or europe then it's a success. You say you don't see 12th place any difference to finishing in 6th or 7th.
Tell that to the supporters who travelled to away games in wolfsburg or lyon. The experience of that is what football fans savour. See for most football is not a business. It's their outlet and thing they look forward to even if the result does not go away.
I'm not sure if you have been to Goodison.
Days like the Chelsea game under big Dunc In December or when baines hit the screamer v Leicester and the stadium shook. We want more good days of course but signing a player or 2 who may improve us a bit now will help. We may never scale the heights again. But nice to have good wins, good away days and hopefully some success.
