Do think he might be better suited in the doucoure role for us with other cm sitting in. I have been happy with him is just we dont have enough protection with him and gana in a two.one of the few positives from Saturday was a first hand demonstration of how he is better for us than Onana was.
It's an interesting observation. The midfield was one of either Garner, Gana or Onana. Only one of whom has played this season. Well, Garner came off the bench, but looked off the pace as well as being out of position. No criticism, not ideal for him.Wants to be involved with the ball a lot more than Onana did which is why he’s standing out (constantly demanding it) - but he’s nowhere near what Onana did positionally or off the ball tracking back.
There’s a big hole currently with him and Gana as the two.
Onana definitely didn’t credit for his positioning and off the ball work. Neither does Doucoure (he’s rightly been dropped for how poor he is with the ball but with no Onana either we are badly exposed through the centre). It's an interesting observation. But yes, shows how thin our squad is. Take out a midfield regular or two and one CB and we look awfully open.
One thing I noticed was that it was McNeil who was pressing Onana and Tielemens in the first half, but second half it seemed to be just Tim and Gana who were pressing them.Tim and Gana midfield is too open. Both like chasing the ball and vacating the space in front of defence.
Agreed, I like both players but the oppo got the CBs really easily. Villa are a top side to be fair but something didn't look quite right.Wants to be involved with the ball a lot more than Onana did which is why he’s standing out (constantly demanding it) - but he’s nowhere near what Onana did positionally or off the ball tracking back.

In fairness Barkley is an excellent first receiver and took up great positions which halted our pressing. One thing I noticed was that it was McNeil who was pressing Onana and Tielemens in the first half, but second half it seemed to be just Tim and Gana who were pressing them.
I was too dumb to ever master mirallas without a Google, I've no hope here.Annoys me when people name their side for the next game and surnames are used for 10 of them but Tim is used to name this player. Learn how to spell his name ye lazy wee bassa's.
Wish we would have got him/went after him. He has matured and is great at doing what he doesIn fairness Barkley is an excellent first receiver and took up great positions which halted our pressing.
That position seems to come so naturally to him, a far cry from the incredibly talented but a bit lost number 10 we used to see.Wish we would have got him/went after him. He has matured and is great at doing what he does
