2024/25 Tim Iroegbunam

Do think he might be better suited in the doucoure role for us with other cm sitting in. I have been happy with him is just we dont have enough protection with him and gana in a two.
I actually think he suits the Gana role better. Great successor to him (in my minds eye anyway)… problem then is we don’t have a sitter/Onana player. Maybe/hopefully Mangala gets up to speed and can do that

…..he can go past players easily in the top third, picks a pass and looks like he has genuine ability in possession.

Mangala is more of a playmaker, he’s way better with the ball than without it.

Best balance I think is going to come with having Garner, Gana, Iroegbhunam as a three. Doubt we end up doing that though.

We’ve got no real ‘sitter’ other than maybe Garner, but I don’t think he’s proven he can do that role.

4 games in and people are started to pick out this lads inability's already.

He was perfectly fine compared to most other Premier League mid table midfielders would of performed.
There will be a point were he may need taking out the team for a little refresh around 15 games played or something like that.
But he's started his Everton career pretty impressively so far and an ok performance against the likes of john McGinn and Youri Tieleman's who have been high performers in this league for 5/6 years is nothing to be ashamed of.

Maybe if the coach would give him some tactical advice

True - but Onana did help set up the Watkins goal and he went off injured not hooked. 0-0.

It was tactical, not an injury. Confirmed by the 'tactical freak' Emery himself.

"I decided to change tactically for Onana. I told last week when you were asking me about him, he’s been really relevant with his impact in the squad but there’s still a lot of work to do, trying to get our ideas tactically and feel comfortable doing it."

Aston Villa have some squad by the way, when you can make tactical tweaks like that with high quality players it must be a huge asset.

I think this has been the most impressive thing about him. There doesn't seem to be any lack of confidence in controlling the ball and turning away from players. He has shown on a few occasions that he can relieve pressure by simply keeping possession of the ball and turning positively into space.
