Times article, Burnley/Leeds threaten to sue Everton

I know mate, im just trying to see it from their POV and what they MIGHT use.
Yeah, fair enough. I think that one's easily refuted from a legal POV. I think it's clear that even if it's not been explicitly announced we are in a period where the PL are controlling and approving our transfer business and we are almost certainly limited to a net spend of more or less zero. If so it's reasonable to assume that regardless of whatever numbers are speculated on for the PL's purposes the immediate spend on transfers in January was covered by selling Digne.

Is this about when we knew we were up against it, accounts wise, so instead of being clever, (yeah I know), like Derby for example, we went to the PL, asked for help/guidance about our plans, and they said "Thats fine, but no real spending for a bit"?

Cos if so, that passed even the Simon Jordan test when he was also presented with the actual facts, after (not surprisingly) assuming we were in the mire.

If so, the clubs should be suing the PL. Which is currently, themselves.
And this is why the club that survives will drop out of this case come Sunday night. To do otherwise would be to sue the organisation that you are a shareholder of - and want to remain a member of. Realpolitik will make that an untenable position. Then it is one club suffering from sour grapes versus the League. Good luck with that.

I'd be amazed if he had the information Burnley and Leeds themselves don't have as to how Covid impacted us.

One particular area of expertise is his ability to analyse and compare.

Ifyou read all of his recent thread you will see that the Everton numbers dwarf every other club that has reported COVID losses over the two years not just by the odd million but by tens if not a hundred million. Had other clubs likewise been claiming anywhere close to the £170 million it’s pretty obvious there wouldn’t be any issues but just for one second ask why Everton’s are so out of step.

A thread like this will encourage the am
Of all the commentators , all the bloggers , all the nerds who look at these matters The Swiss Rambler is probably considered to be the go to on such matters.
I am not going to re post his comments but I certainly wouldn’t dismiss anything he says because quite simply he Is an expert unlike most, no all of us
That Swiss Rambler blog / string of tweets starts off with the "On the face of it, it does not look good" tone...then it's diluted to a point where debatable claims based on what could possibly be admissible as declared losses are made.

Basically, beyond the colourful spreadsheets, it's not especially better informed than anything we've all been able to muster on this forum.

He's 100% correct on this though: there'll be no quick decision. The magnitude of the consequences means that - regardless of any historical Tevez-WHU example of the speed that a relegation issue can be dealt with - this is punted into the long grass for a very very long time.

I know it's ridiculous on the face of it isn't it. We must have come up with quite the story to explain it away!

We were the only club that needed to ask if we could do it this way?

We asked, the PL considered our suggestion, and agreed it was fine to present the accounts that way.

Don’t care for them.

Pipe on about being a “super” club, yet they’ve spent more time out the top flight in the last 60 years than they have in it.

Had a purple patch and had some good teams Over the years, but their delusion is mad.

Had an average attendance of under 30,000 for 13 seasons, when they’re meant to be fantastic fans.

Better than Burnley, but that’s not saying much.
Remember coming to Goodison for a night game in mid 93/94 season and 18000 there. Everyone has their low points.I have missed 3 games home and away , this season been going since 1975. We are not deluded just our many owners . Same as any club you need to have continuous sound investment, the latest incumbent owner has failed miserably. We have 24000 waiting list for a season ticket so we should be able to get 55000 every game.

Accounting, and accounts, are not the straight line of presentation many assume they must be. Its why they have to be audited. Pass the audit, all sound.
Exactly. We will have already passed external audits and if they have been happy, that should be the end of it.
