And that, among other reasons, is why I think I'd not lose a game of Scrabble Vs GOTers
Wrong thread, bozo. Jesus, you'd probably bring a Cluedo board to a Scrabble fight.
You ain't fooling anyone with your Scrabble prowess, you schlemiel.

RIP to the lost souls today.

Show some respect, he oversaw nuclear naval development! That's the king of electronic battleship you're conversing with there!

At least Rita isn’t a Tory bootlicker eh Pete?

well at least I’m not a Poon bootlicker like the two of you…by all means let’s take this to the CA and away from what should be a thread about a terribly sad event and I’ll show you both up there, but not here……

He seemed shocked that the French pilot had passed away due to his years of experience. You'd think he'd have known better but you never know what money may have been involved.

There's no way that there wasn't enough rumour/negativity for anyone of a sound mind to think "hey, this isn't as safe as it should/could be, so I'll give it a miss".

I was expecting them to say it had done about 20/30 visits to Titanic but it had only done 3 in 3 years.
Was listening to “The Daily” episode (recorded before they found the sub) and their intervieweehad done multiple deep dives and said Nargeolet was “the” guy for the Titanic and was a fantastic storyteller so it appears one area they didn’t cut corners was the guide.

His daughter says he loved the place so hopefully that would at least be some comfort to the family.

That being able to have a laugh dried up quick didn't it pepe...

Personally thought the Canadian/US coastguards were extremely professional and if deep sea rescue in international waters is going to be part of their regular remit then perhaps the wealthy on those trips might conisder stumping up a bit more tax money to equip them.

There is no reason the mothership doesn't have a sonar rv operating at the same time as a dive. It's sheer madness to expect stuff to be flown in 7 hours after loss of contact lets the world know theres an emergency. These five were dead, and the idiots at the scene had no idea. The waste and hypocrisy of this situation ought to implement significant fines on the port of registration to the respective vessel.

Yeah, just read that in the papers, poor lad. But I cannot comprehend what pain his father must have felt looking at him when it went wrong…..

We can only hope that they didn't have time to realise. I saw an interview with Bob Ballard where he said they were on their way up at the time (so they knew something was wrong - not sure how he knows that though) but the pilot wouldn't have panicked in that situation so I doubt the passengers would either. He would have just taken it up and with every 100 meters or so it's that much less pressure on the hull but obviously never got that far and it would have been over in an instant.

More than sad he made his son go on a trip he didn't want to though. I remember going on a tourist type sub in Gran Canaria and even though it doesn't dive very deep and you can clearly see the light in the water you still feel the trepidation of what could happen if something goes wrong. I wouldn't have begged, coerced or demanded anyone to go with me that didn't want to do it themselves, nevermind spending hours in one in total darkness going to depths that can crush anything that has the slightest bit of air in it.

I get freaked out going on the Finding Nemo ride at Disney World and it only submerges a few feet, no chance I'm going to the bottom of the sea.
