It’s VAR that’s the poison for officiating now. I think refs now instantly want VAR to get involved after any goal/incident as they’re so scared they’re going to get something wrong.
You're right but there were problems before VAR too and I think they're amplified by it's presence.
 

Nah. Ref has realised he's made a right pigs ear of the big decision and the push he initially let fly - rightly as football is a contact sport - gave him a way out.

1. It's a penalty
2. It's not a red card if last man in the penalty area

There is a difference between football being a contact sport, and a foul. It was a clear push in the back by Gana, ergo a foul. Everything after that doesn't count, as the ball is dead. The right decision was arrived at in the end, which is how VAR is supposed to work, wirh the ref consulting the pitch-side monitor. End of...
