Nicolas Pepe has to be the most overpriced player in history.
I think the people who think this most is the main men at Arsenal who fired their head of recruitment didn’t they?

I think there’s been a few stories over the years, where teams have went into the negotiations and the selling team have set an initial price and the buyers have just agreed in panic.

Andy Carroll is another off the top of my head.

Supposedly Lille would have accepted in the region of £50m (if you believe some Arsenal forums and journos), and Arsenal walked away paying £72m, which is about £60m over in reality

Don't think this should be understated though; a calm keeper breeds confidence. If defenders are always worried about an attacker getting a shot off because it'll most likely go in they can't be as confident in their own game.

Really think our defence wouldn't be so bad if we had a nice solid keeper behind.
Yeah. I did mention that factor. And as Walham Green Blue says, the communication aspect can't be under estimated either. And it seems Mendy is a good communicator.

Absolutely no way have Lille just gone “yeah you can have him for erm let’s ju-yeah seventy erm-yeah why not two million?” and Arsenal have gone yeah sound guys we’ve got Ozil still on £350k a week but no dramas” lollollol

The best but is that the bloke has one foot and has moved to a league where the defenders actually have the basic acumen to show him onto his weak foot meaning he is absolutely pointless.

Surely up there with one of the worst signings in recent premier league times, isn't it?

There's definitely some stories about Raul Sanellehi and his policies somewhere. Just hired someone so out of his depth ala Walsh

For the money and the fact everyone knew they were paying it for a bloke who’d had one and a half good seasons it has to be the worst for me. Doesn’t get anything like the coverage it deserves either!

Bournemouth carry on the remarkable bounceback story of the three relegated teams. 0-4 at struggling Barnsley confirming their position at the top ahead of Norwich and Watford.

Low morale, their best players long flown after relegation and the usual fire sale that follows, a replacement new manager desperately scrambling to steady a sinking ship, is usually the formula after relegation. Parachute payments help offset it a little but losses are inevitable with premiership wages set in contracts and outgoings just too high.

It's highly unusual for all three to break the norm, usually you may find one or two, like the barcodes, West Brom or Burnley but not all three. As I said in a previous post bouncebackability will be the word in vogue until they all bounce back down again next year.

(Norwich similar to Burnley didn't overspend and so in a much better position to recover and go again)

On the first time with fans in, take a guess which club had fans, a significant number of them, booing when the players took the knee?
