Having been at Wembley to watch us lift the cup in '84 I will always have a soft spot for it. It's a shame that the oldest cup competition has become so devalued but I'm all for a bit of the romance. Difficult to get worked up about footy in the present situation. I know a Morecambe season-ticket holder who was gutted to miss out on their third-round match at Stamford Bridge, just as the couple of thousand that no doubt would've packed into Chorley's ground tonight. More the case with interminable (even prestige) international friendlies and worse still qualifying for me, which in England's case is the equivalent more friendlies but against far inferior opposition with qualifying a formality.
The finals tournaments in the summer are worthwhile but ditch the qualifying when it's a numbingly boring cakewalk anyway
