As I understand it, the goal must be disallowed if it immediately precedes a goal. It's a terrible rules change that allows no discretion in cases like this. Arguably, as the rule stands defenders would be well served to intentionally rifle the ball off attackers' arms over and over again in order to deny the possibility of a shot.
It is a bizarre rule. If the defender accidentally handles the ball in the box, the attacking team doesn't get an automatic penalty anymore. I wouldn't mind if they'd kept the rule from the start of the season, as it would make sense that regardless of intent, hand ball is hand ball. Now, you have a situation were accidental hand ball is ok if you're defending but not if you're attacking.

I read the rule is going to be reviewed again, on the attacking side at least.

Another, far more erudite, poster wrote on here how VAR has killed interpretation and in codifying the rules we are creating black and white absolutes that can result in those farces like Fulham last night.

Before VAR I think I was vaguely in favour, probably hoping it would be used only for those occasions when the ref had missed something. There can't be anyone who supports this current form of VAR, it's killing the game. I have a bit of a soft spot for Fulham for making this season's relegation battle interesting, but I like to think I would feel aggrieved if this happened to any club*.

*Except the RS, obviously. Then it becomes comedy gold.

I don't mind teething problems with var as long as the rules are quickly refined as a result. I'd rather have black and white definitions that seem silly but are applied consistently, than allowing incompetent or corrupt referees to interpret the rules as they see fit.

Fair enough, did you think that disallowed goal was the right call last night then?

For once the bore David James was correct by saying or asking why has there not been a level onside/ offside call/review.
And sky once again more ex rs infestation.
That Dutch fellas kids must think its Halloween every day.

Wowww
Law changed immediately after Spurs benefits from it. Fulham must be pissed.
Which now goes back to "interpretation" of the handball rule. Which is going to, again, have countless amounts of debate about handballs.
